Principal Underwriting Consultant - Strategic Relationships
Considered a subject matter expert in area of life underwriting. Under minimal supervision, assesses and approve for issue the medical and financial risk for highly complex cases up to $20,000,000 sign off authority. This individual should also have the ability to review cases up to $50,000,000, assigns the proper risk class to the case and elevate to a Sr. Leader for approval. Communicates underwriting decisions to the producer or FMO and works with internal distribution to communicate the offer when necessary. Provides technical support to the underwriting team and Underwriting Director. Provides informal leadership to the underwriting team through education, workload management, and process improvement. May travel and deliver presentations representing Allianz Life at industry events and to distribution partners.
Essential Job Functions:~crlf~• Able to independently work through highly complex large cases by reviewing medical records, medical exams, financial documents, telephone interviews, and other underwriting requirements to determine proper risk class assessment in accordance with company guidelines.~crlf~• Has a solid background and experience with reinsurance carriers and the ability to manage these risks and assess appropriately.~crlf~• Properly document risk assessment information and underwriting decisions within system application.~crlf~• Communicate underwriting decisions with field distribution, agents, and FMOs. Build rapport by educating on additional strategies that can be used to present adverse decisions to clients, as well as education on our products, requirements and underwriting philosophy.~crlf~• Correspond effectively with internal and external customers regarding the status of cases, including field and internal distribution partners, the medical community, reinsurers and vendors.~crlf~• Act as a team lead, mentor and coach to other underwriters and Enterprise Operations employees, as needed.~crlf~• Recommend improvements to the internal Underwriting guidelines, operational procedures, and standards; participate on department projects as assigned. ~crlf~
Minimum Requirements:~crlf~• 11+ years’ experience required in life underwriting and insurance industry~crlf~• 4 year degree or equivalent experience~crlf~• 15+ years’ experience preferred~crlf~• Preferred: FALU designation; FMLI designation; CLU or ChFC designation~crlf~
