Regulatory Filing Actuary - Chicago, IL
Using actuarial experience, knowledge of external market forces, and awareness of industry trends, assist management with developing business strategies and with solving complex business problems. Responsible for consulting with line of business experts to develop rates, rules, rating plans, actuarial support, and regulatory filing strategies for new and existing commercial products. Complete required actuarial memoranda and exhibits for insurance department rate filings. Respond to insurance department inquiries and objections to achieve successful outcomes. Assist with the preparation of regulatory data call submissions.
##Keep abreast of leading market practice and drive innovation.~crlf~##Promote close collaboration and interaction with the various business areas (Group, UW, MM, CFO, etc.) to foster mutual understanding of how business developments impact actuarial drivers in the financials.~crlf~##Manage and drive forward own area of responsibility or project.~crlf~##Develop global actuarial pricing approaches and processes, as well as enhance actuarial models and analyses.~crlf~##Prepare and perform Actuarial pricing analysis for assigned business area including documentation, communication and explanation of results.~crlf~##Peer review work from other team members, as well as mentor and provide guidance to junior team members.~crlf~~crlf~
##Bachelor’s Degree (ideally Master’s) preferably in Mathematics, Statistics or other appropriate discipline or qualified by experience in related discipline;~crlf~##Accredited member of the Casualty Actuarial Society in good standing;~crlf~##Minimum of 5 years of actuarial pricing experience in the US (standard commercial lines experience preferred but not required);~crlf~##Successful record of accomplishment with commercial lines rate filings in states with complex actuarial and regulatory requirements;~crlf~##Significant experience with relational database query tools and techniques;~crlf~##Excellent oral and written communication skills;~crlf~##Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with company and Department of Insurance staff; ~crlf~##Excellent project management skills, including ability to maintain progress on multiple projects;~crlf~##Extensive computer skills (e.g., MS Office including VBA and relevant expert systems such as Matlab, R, SQL, Java, etc.);~crlf~##Job specific knowledge with regards to market dynamics, standard concepts and approaches, regulations/compliance standards, reporting requirements (e.g., reinsurance and underwriting knowledge, actuarial pricing techniques, data flows, etc.);~crlf~##Finance and Insurance know-how (ideally P&C), as well as understanding of complexities inherent in an insurance group (e.g., consolidation processes, legal vs management view) allowing for cross-departmental thinking and acting;~crlf~##Quantitative financial and risk modeling know-how and skills;~crlf~##Ability to identify patterns and root causes in complex (e.g., ambiguous, from various sources) data and processes to rapidly distill key issues and provide insight in various situations;~crlf~##Ability to understand, elaborate and convey information clearly and effectively in respect to the audience/level of management (both verbal and in writing);~crlf~##The ability to positively influence others actions, decisions, opinions or thinking resulting in positive outcomes;~crlf~##Ability to persuade and motivate others without direct authority;~crlf~##Ability to identify and initiate appropriate actions to remediate issues that can be abstract/ambiguous and follow through on their remediation; and~crlf~##Ability to anticipate and resolve issues before they transpire.~crlf~~crlf~
