Accountant I - Technical Accounting, Chicago, IL
The Accountant I – Technical Accounting role will be responsible for supporting technical accounting and reporting topics related to the net underwriting results of the organization with a focus on the gross insurance business on a STAT and IFRS basis. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:~crlf~##Reconciling premium and loss data from feeder systems;~crlf~##Recording DAC and IBNR, supporting the statutory pooling program, delivering on IFRS and STAT regulatory reporting deadlines; and~crlf~##Preparation of underwriting schedules for the NAIC annual statements.~crlf~Accountabilities also include assisting with the completion of statutory audited financial statements and support of data requests related to external audits and state examinations. Will assist in project work as assigned.
##Governance and quality assurance.~crlf~##Documenting application of policies, procedures and workflow for assigned areas of responsibility.~crlf~##Archiving records to satisfy audit and statutory requirements.~crlf~##Drafting standards to improve quality as well as active contribution in improving and implementing global operation cycles, processes and workflows, as well as the implementation of global policies and procedures.~crlf~##Reporting and closing.~crlf~##Ensuring that all IFRS, GAAP and Statutory closing and reporting tasks (e.g., annual reporting, reporting to regulatory authorities, NAIC reporting, other internal/external reporting requirements) related to own area of responsibility are accurate and timely on a global basis.~crlf~##Completing assigned postings, Journal Entries and Account reconciliations on a periodic basis. ~crlf~##Reconciling and settling intercompany transactions within the affiliated company group.~crlf~##Coordination, transfer and reconciliation of data from interfaces of front-end systems.~crlf~##Completing monthly legal entity close submission activities, including posting of accruals, deferred acquisition expenses and other accounting transactions.~crlf~##Supporting colleagues in the near- and offshore entities with their closing tasks, coordinating the tasks, supervising the teams and performing quality checks on the work done.~crlf~##Global P&L analysis and reviews.~crlf~##Assisting internal clients (e.g., other departments) with reports, research and other activities.~crlf~##Identify items for discussion or resolution.~crlf~##Project work as assigned.~crlf~~crlf~
##Bachelors’ Degree - Accounting, Finance or Business;~crlf~##CPA Preferred;~crlf~##Financial Statement preparation;~crlf~##Relevant insurance accounting experience, including knowledge of US statutory and GAAP accounting principles;~crlf~##Knowledge of IFRS is a plus;~crlf~##Comprehensive knowledge of local GAAP, IAS, IFRS, Regulatory, Tax and other relevant requirements (such as Allianz Accounting policies) with regard to reporting, compliance and declaration;~crlf~##Advanced Office skills like Excel, Access, PowerPoint (to effectively analyze data and convey messages in a winning fashion) and proficiency in using systems in own area (like SAP, Business Warehouse);~crlf~##Performance measurement including drivers and being able to perform financial statements analysis (e.g., reading a P&L and Balance sheet, Ratio Analysis, capital management, lines of business), underwriting and claims functions;~crlf~##Ability to identify patterns and root causes in complex data and processes to rapidly distill key issues and provide insight in various situations;~crlf~##Ability to identify and initiate appropriate actions to remediate issues that can be abstract/ambiguous and follow through on their remediation;~crlf~##Performance measurement including drivers and being able to perform financial statements analysis (e.g., reading a P&L and Balance sheet, Ratio Analysis, capital management, lines of business) underwriting and claims functions;~crlf~##Ability to manage projects and to handle complex processes including understanding of data flows, documentation of processes, analysis of root causes and creation of action plans;~crlf~##Knowledge of data architecture, understanding the potential of data analytics, ability to digitalize the accounting processes and to explain the accounting needs to third parties;~crlf~##Ability to understand, elaborate and convey information clearly and effectively in respect of the audience/level of management in both verbal and in written form; and~crlf~##Collaboration across teams (in and outside of CFO) and in virtual teams and being able to supervise and coordinate near- and offshore teams without authority.~crlf~~crlf~
