We are building a new central risk modelling team within Allianz Risk Consulting (ARC) at Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS) with experienced data engineers and in collaboration with actuaries who develop, drive and implement best-in-class risk exposure assessment methodologies and tools across all Lines of Businesses (LoBs). 

These tools are driven by a wide variety of data sources ranging from internal data to external feeds like ship tracking that is processed on a modern, cloud-based infrastructure. 

As a Data Engineer, you will collaborate with the ARC Head of Underwriting Excellence, various internal stakeholders from ARC (Analytics team, Global LoB Heads, Risk Engineers), Underwriting, pricing actuaries and data engineers from the Global Data Office in AGCS. At AGCS, we have a hyprid working model, which recognizes the value in a balance between remote and office based working, giving you the flexibility to organize the way you work.


Key responsibilities 

In this role, you will…  

  • Build semi-automated risk assessment models per LoB to determine the quality of a risk and to enable exposure management 

  • Use external data to increase coverage of Risk Assessments in AGCS' Underwriting portfolio and automate data collection process in close alignment with Pricing Actuaries and other inhouse Data Engineers  

  • Provide Allianz Risk Consulting and Underwriting with full transparency of included elements/drivers in risk assessment model to ensure proper consideration 

  • Participate in the discovery and capture of data requirements from business stakeholders, translate business requirements into a working code 

  • Drive solutions based on business problems 

  • Work with IT and other analytics stakeholders to help put into production data flows from different internal and external data systems into a centralised data lake


Key Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a numerical field, preferably with a strong focus on Computer Science or Data Engineering, or qualified by experience 

  • Several years of working experience in a data-focused role that requires rigorous financial or business analytics, ideally in a P&C environment 

  • Proven history of data model design and implementation, ideally with a focus on P&C risk assessments 

  • Knowledge of state of the art Underwriting processes and decision making frameworks  

  • Significant experience in working with SQL essential  

  • Strong expertise in Python, especially handling large datasets with pyspark  

  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills and likes to get hands on digging into data issues 

  • Knowledge in Machine Learning / Data Science 

  • Strong skills in data visualisation and interpretation  

  • Independent and self-directed individual that thrive when faced with challenge  

  • Fluent English, any other language would be beneficial
