Allianz Experts

Meet Jesus

Ardent cyclist and Data Scientist at Allianz Spain.

He says: “I was curious about how a physicist could fit into an insurance company.

What’s your mission at Allianz?

Using advanced analytic tools, I work with the data provided by different business areas – e.g. information from claims or marketing departments. Moreover, I create, evaluate and maintain Data Science projects, provide support in a technical context  and act as a trainer. Input from the customer’s side can be useful to improve their experience with the company – I also take care of that!.

What’s your career progression?

While studying physics, I found computational physics especially interesting: How to verify theories with experiments? I went to a 3-day course “Deep Learning from Scratch” and this triggered my interest in data science. At Allianz Technology, I started as an intern in the functional architecture team, then worked as a functional analyst - which is quite strange to be the first job in IT! But one year later, I moved to the Business Analytics Team as a Data Scientist. For an important project, it was necessary to work with Spark, a Big Data framework – after months of self-learning and debugging, we successfully accomplished the project.

What's surprising about your job?

Although it seems incredible, most of our time we do not program. When I took on this role, even I did not expect that I would go to another country as a trainer.

What’s your main career advice? What inspires you?

Listening to good music while riding a bike in the middle of nowhere inspires me. I love working with people who take time to help others. Never be afraid of asking or trying new things! Enjoy learning!
