Building a vibrant and collaborative culture
After studying Law and International Studies at UTS, Will began his career with Allianz as part of our Grad program, in the general insurance stream.

“Starting at Allianz as a general insurance grad was the perfect choice for me; someone with a double degree, who didn’t know what to do with it. I was lucky enough to work with my grad manager to personalise my rotational experiences across the business, working with teams to develop the unique legal, risk and business skillset I was looking for.”
Following the completion of his Grad rotations, Will tried his hand at Line 1 Risk & Compliance at Allianz.
“In my Risk & Compliance role, I partnered with several key product, pricing and governance functions, and was offered a six-month secondment opportunity into one of my business areas to further develop my understanding of the insurance industry in a ‘real world’ way. I’ve been able to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders such as product managers, actuaries and regulators to help steer our NSW, QLD and SA portfolios. Soon, after settling into the role and responsibilities, I was fortunate to be offered the role permanently.”
Working in Allianz’s team of technical experts of pricing, product, portfolio, and underwriting functions means you’ll be part of a skilled and experienced local team where everyone works toward a common goal but enjoys a lot of fun along the way.

“We have a genuine focus on continuing to welcome and develop fresh ideas. There’s endless potential for innovation and improvement as part of our technical excellence ambitions, and I truly think all the technological buzzwords you hear are relevant at Allianz, such as ‘AI’, ‘machine learning’ and ‘data’. The technical product and pricing team could be described as the “heartbeat” that runs through an insurance business, and I think that’s very true here.”
Allianz is committed to the development of employees, offering both structured and self-paced learning. Will says it’s the exposure to a variety of learning pathways that has helped him develop his professional skills.
“Early on, I had a grad buddy and a senior sponsor to support me when I first started, and then I took part in the NEO mentorship program, which was also great. As a past president of our Allianz Toastmasters Club, and leader of our divisional Culture Working Group, I’ve really been able to grow my stakeholder and management skills. The highs, lows and challenges have made me feel incredibly empowered, and valued, given the early stage I am at in my career.”

“The learning and social events we organise are always a blast; you never know what anecdote or story someone is going to share. There are a couple of things that create a fantastic culture in the team: we’re all really committed, and we want to learn and make things better, and we like to show a bit of personality at work. I personally think we have the best culture anywhere, but I may be slightly biased!”
