Community & Sustainability at Allianz Australia

For over 100 years, Allianz has been helping Australians secure their future. As a global insurer, Allianz is committed to contributing and engaging with the community as a leading corporate citizen upholding the values of social impact and environmental, social, governance (ESG) integration.

Social Impact

At Allianz, we use our experience to tackle some of the most significant societal issues of our time. From small actions in our teams and communities to large-scale investment decisions, we believe social impact is everyone’s business – and everyone’s shared responsibility.

We focus our commitment and maximise our impact across three pillars: Thriving People, Healthy Planet and Responsible Business.

Thriving People

Helping to build personal health and resilience is central to how we work with our customers, our employees and the broader community. As our world has evolved, safety has become more than a physical consideration. More and more we understand the importance of psychological safety. Protecting and strengthening mental health and wellbeing is key to a good life. By helping keep people safe and by supporting their mental health and wellbeing, we help them move beyond survival – we help them thrive.

Healthy planet

Limiting global warming and countering climate change is important to us. We’re committed to taking proactive steps to secure a healthy planet.

In our business, we identify and manage climate-related risks and opportunities within our business operations, products and services. We systematically assess our insurance business and our proprietary investments against ESG criteria, considering matters such as carbon emissions, energy efficiency and biodiversity.

Responsible Business

We’re committed to contributing to an inclusive society. One in which all people – no matter their culture, background or ability – feel valued and have the opportunity to use their unique skills to reach their full potential.

We believe empowering people to participate equitably at work and in the community helps promote fairness in society. When conditions that allow people to succeed exist, the economy and businesses thrive too.

Our Community Program

Allianz Australia has established a program that supports employees to give back to the community:

  • Volunteer leave: employees can access one day of paid leave annually to volunteer for a charity of their choice.
  • Workplace Giving Program: employees can set a regular donation to our charity partners through their pre-tax salary.
  • Fundraising campaigns: employees can donate to the charity partners through targeted campaigns. These campaigns are commonly dollar-matched by Allianz Australia.

One of our key charity partners is Disaster Relief Australia. A not-for-profit organisation that unites the skills and experiences of Australian Defence Force veterans, emergency responders and civilians to rapidly deploy disaster relief teams domestically and around the globe.

Allianz Sustainable Employment Program & Scholarship

Since 2016, Allianz Australia has partnered with Settlement Services International (SSI) to support people with a refugee background as part of our broader commitments to a diverse and inclusive society. The partnership provides targeted support for both employment and education, acknowledging both are vital to provide a sense of stability, identity and the achievement of one’s potential.

The partnership between Allianz Australia and SSI was recognised with the Australian Human Rights Business Award in 2017, awarded by the Australian Human Rights Commission.

Meet Sinan

After a few weeks and several rounds of interviews, I received the news that I had been accepted into the Allianz cadetship program, starting as a Case Manager in the Personal Injury division. After a year and a half in that role, I was lucky to move into a new role working in the HR Systems team, which looks after the HR platforms and systems, data entry, analytics, and reporting for the entire company.

Our Sustainable Employment Program was established to create meaningful job opportunities for people with a refugee background. The program provides tailored development and career management plans, leading to permanent employment.

The SSI Allianz scholarships directly support people from refugee backgrounds by minimising the financial barriers experienced to participating in the Australian education system.

The SSI Allianz Scholarships directly support young people with refugee backgrounds by providing funds for secondary and tertiary education, Vocational and Education Training (VET) and, attaining local recognition of their skills and qualifications. Since 2016, the program has supported over 200 refugees.

We also support SSI as a charity partner – our employees fundraise and volunteer to provide additional support to the organisation’s programs.

Our Community Commitment

At Allianz, we establish impactful partnerships, invest in the community, connect people and promote good health.

Corporate Mental Health Alliance

Allianz is a proud founding member of the Corporate Mental Health Alliance in Australia. The Alliance is business-led, expert-guided, and made up of fifteen of Australia’s largest employers, all championing a culture of good mental health for Australian workers.

Mental health in sport

In 2020, Allianz announced a three-year partnership with the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) to help support a range of mental health initiatives for Australia’s Olympic athletes through its Wellbeing Week & Wellness Engagement Series.

In working with the AOC, Allianz want to encourage athletes to speak openly about their fears and vulnerabilities to show that even the strongest among us are vulnerable. We also provide tailored support where needed, leaning on our experience and knowledge in the mental health space as an insurer working with one in five workplaces across Australia.

Allianz is also a proud supporter of Paralympics Australia’s new mentoring program. Its mission is to support potential and current Paralympians to set and achieve their goals, both in and out of sport, through mentoring, coaching and leadership training by Paralympic alumni.

Allianz is particularly focused on helping to support the mental health of Para-athletes through its Workplace Giving Program. Funds raised will go towards providing mental wellness programs by Paralympics Australia

Allianz Stadium

We invest in stadiums because we’re committed to bringing communities together and doing good through sport. We’re proud to sponsor the transformation of the new Allianz Stadium in Sydney, which brings unique public spaces together with recreational facilities for an unparalleled fan experience. The Stadium offers first-class hospitality for all, including state-of-the-art members’ facilities and corporate hospitality spaces, which support both local communities and Australian business.
