Integrity, Support, and Inclusivity—The very reasons I have built my career at Allianz Australia

Shubham Rana, a Customer Insights Analyst, is incredibly happy to have discovered Allianz Australia as a warm, welcoming, and inclusive workplace that values every employee for all the things that make them unique.

"We have diversity and inclusion programs in place, that give me, and I'm sure everyone else, an assurance that the company values everyone individually, and that the issues that matter to employees, matter to the company as well."

Early on, Shubham recognised the company's attention to detail in what he refers to as “the little things”.

Everyone is encouraged to celebrate their culture, which is significant considering the immense size and diversity of the company. Festivals such as Diwali, Holi, Chinese New Year, and Christmas are welcomed and celebrated right across the company. The culture of curiosity and learning are deeply ingrained and reflected in relationships and life at work, generally.

In the Customer Insights team, Shubham's role involves analysing data to understand the preferences and behaviours of our customers, which helps us to make data-driven decisions so we can better support customers in the future. As Shubham puts it, the team “live and breathes data.”

"Our culture resonates with me, because I really value collaboration. But more than anything else, I am always striving to make a positive impact through the work that I do, with data. I know there's always room for improvement, which is why I constantly push myself to find new ways to use data and the insights we gain from it," shared Shubham.

The sense of belonging and appreciation Shubham feels at Allianz is strong and reflected in day-to-day activities and interactions with colleagues- no matter how small those interactions may seem, such as sending text to a co-worker who unwell, or spending time with new team members.

"I know that Allianz values inclusivity every step of the way. For me, as a member of the LGBT+ community, this means a lot. I feel cared for, supported, and represented, and it's important to me that I have a safe, welcoming place where I can be myself."

He went on to explain the importance of Pride celebrations as a wonderful way for the company to show its support and respect for the LGBT+ community. Employees know the values and authenticity of the company and its leaders, so it makes Allianz a desirable place to work for people out there in the market looking for work.

This is particularly relevant to LGBT+ employees within culturally diverse communities. As Shubham explained, when ethnicity intersects with sexual orientation, this can create challenges such as social exclusion, stigma, and even outright hostility, all of which can have a negative impact on an individual's professional opportunities and well-being.

"While I have been incredibly lucky to have enormous support at work and from my family, this might not be the case for everyone. Lack of visibility and representation can lead to isolation; making it difficult to find support. At Allianz, however, people of diverse backgrounds and experience feel welcome and safe and are encouraged to embrace everything that makes them special. The employee engagement and productivity driven by a great workplace like ours is wonderful and genuinely priceless."
