Challenging yourself at a company that supports your growth

Nadine always knew she wanted to pursue a career where she could help people. While studying exercise physiology at university, her interest was sparked by a role at Allianz in the Personal Injury team.

I knew I wanted to help people, but I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go into a hands-on career in allied health. For me, my work at Allianz is so rewarding because I can use all the skills I’ve learned during my study but apply them in a different way to make a positive difference to the lives of injured people, and best support them in their recovery journey during a time when they are most vulnerable.

A career development journey

Following two years of secondments that allowed Nadine to utilise her allied health background in various roles, 2013 presented an opportunity for her to travel abroad. Moving to London to live and work, Nadine worked as an in-home carer, supporting elderly people living with disabilities.

Working as an in-home carer was physically demanding and emotionally draining, but I gained a whole range of skills that are transferrable both professionally and personally. Supporting those people to achieve their care goals and maintain independence was really rewarding,” Nadine shares.

During her career break overseas, Nadine also got to travel and see parts of the world she had only previously dreamt about:

I was living my travel dreams! From seeing the Northern Lights to the inside of Tutankhamun’s Tomb, I travelled across the UK, Europe, and Africa. I created so many great memories and friendships overseas, but I really couldn’t wait to return to Australia; back to the people, culture and work/life balance we enjoy. The Aussie way of life is hard to say no to!

Challenging yourself at a company that supports your growth.

After arriving home in Australia after her career break, Nadine returned to Allianz, where her career developed across several injury management roles in the NSW Personal Injury team, which led to her relocation to Sydney in early 2018 to work alongside large government agencies as a Senior Injury Management Specialist before being promoted to Manager, Injury Management. This provided Nadine even more insight and understanding of the how the company operates and supports their customers.

I love leading passionate people and supporting them in achieving their own career development goals. Setting people up for success is really rewarding. We have a fantastic learning culture at Allianz. Everyone is encouraged to take ownership of their development and take advantage of the many learning and training opportunities we have available to us.

Nadine is a firm believer in embracing the opportunities that are presented to her, even those that may first seem outside her comfort zone. She’s focused continuing her development to be the most well-rounded insurance professional she can be.

“I have never shied away from taking side steps if it meant expanding my skillset, improving my knowledge, and gaining experience working with different customers and leaders to become the best version of myself professionally.

In late 2021, Nadine was promoted to the role of Return to Work Manager in the NSW Government Services division, where she was responsible for leading a team of allied health professionals to implement best practice injury management processes and innovative solutions that supports improved return to work, health and life outcomes for our customers. During her time in this role, Nadine’s commitment to the personal injury industry saw her actively participate in industry conferences and symposiums as presenter and panellist, sharing insights and viewpoints from her experience in holistically supporting people in their recovery journey.

In the Government Services division, we provide claims management services to government workers compensation schemes and private businesses in NSW. It’s fast-paced, so you need time management skills. You also need good communication skills, because you’re working with various stakeholders (employers, doctors, allied health professionals, etc.) to ensure that the injured worker is always at the centre of the experience.

Bring your allied health experience to Allianz…and the Apple Isle!

Nadine’s experience in allied health has held her in good stead for a rewarding career at Allianz and her recent career move has also seen her relocate yet again, this time to Hobart, Tasmania to join Allianz’s Underwritten and Distribution Business as Claims Manager.

Hobart is a very welcoming and friendly city, with beautiful scenery and countless bars and restaurants to explore. It has a really inviting atmosphere, and I’m excited to explore Tasmania when my parents and friends visit; especially the wineries, distilleries, and oyster farms I hear about!
