Technical Manager - Liability Claims, Specialty & Major Accounts | Multiple locations

 

Allianz Commercial’s Specialty & Major Accounts division is looking for an experienced technical manager to join our Liability Claims team in Australia.  The Liability Claims portfolio includes personal injury, third party property damage, products liability and entertainment.

 

Reporting to the National Manager – Claims, Specialty & Major Accounts, the successful candidate will manage a variety of complex, high-value Liability claims across Australia and New Zealand, and provide technical direction and coaching to the Liability Claims team.   They will develop and oversee claims resolution strategies and manage external service providers with a high degree of autonomy, while driving engagement with Allianz Commercial’s market-leading global claims community. 

 

They will provide claims and industry trends feedback to underwriters, actuaries and our global Chief Claims Office, and support business development initiatives involving the Long Tail lines of business.  Their ideas to improve our current ways of working will be very welcome.

 

You'll be responsible for

  • Manage a complex portfolio of commercial line claims with high exposure across multiple jurisdictions, adhering to authority levels within the Long Tail business lines.
  • Provide technical guidance and coaching to Claims Specialists, serving as a referral point for coverage, reserving, and payment decisions.
  • Engage with global "large loss" teams as per authority procedures and uphold a "no surprises" reporting philosophy.
  • Oversee the claims portfolio to ensure claims are handled efficiently, appropriately and in compliance with regulations.
  • Report and present complex loss and claims information to stakeholders, maximize recoverable income through proactive reinsurance engagement, and manage external service providers.
  • Support business development initiatives and keep abreast of claims and industry trends.

 

About you

  • Require extensive experience in complex claims handling within relevant business lines, or a lawyer with a minimum of 7 years post-qualification in insurance litigation.
  • Must possess deep technical knowledge of relevant business lines, including independent coverage assessment and a comprehensive understanding of the legal process.
  • Need to have excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence, alongside strong analytical, strategic, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Should have highly developed negotiation and investigation skills, with a capacity to effectively plan, prioritize, and manage tasks and resources.
  • Must maintain current knowledge of insurance guidelines, legislation, and regulations, demonstrate proficiency with relevant systems and tools, and uphold a growth mindset with a commitment to ethics and professionalism.
