We are looking for an Underwriting Process Leader – Marine. If you have an actuarial background with an insurance company – that would be a plus! This position will work a hybrid schedule based in our New York office.

The Impact You Will Have  

Reporting to the Regional Head of Inland Marine NA, this position will design and lead the execution of process improvement projects with the North American Marine Line of Business (LoB).  Provide underwriting process guidance and support to the Marine LoB.  Act as the Marine process liaison for internal constituents.  Responsible for designing solutions based underwriting process guidelines, job aids, training and coordination as needed.  Deliver training when needed.

 

Some of your specific responsibilities could include:  

  • Design, develop, create, implement and maintain underwriting processes (i.e., Underwriting Workbench) that maximizes efficiency, improves data quality and empowers underwriters with impactful data at the point of sale to increase profit margin.  
  • Serve as the Marine Line of Business liaison for operational business partners to maximize integration for highest quality & efficiency. Ensure early engagement with Stakeholders on known hot spots and future demand, and continuously keeping them informed of progress and issues in alignment. Ensure continued cooperation towards successful completion and benefits realization. Positively influence key position holders across locations and functions.
  • Represent N.A. Marine Underwriting’s contribution to Allianz IT systems and processes.   Drive involvement of functional areas in process coordination including e.g.  CUO, Operations, including off-shore services, Actuarial, State Filings and Distribution.  Roll out and deliver training as needed on new processes and promulgate results as needed to leadership and business partners. Actively support LoB-specific projects and task forces.
  • Identify and provide resources, tools and guidance to facilitate underwriting within the governance framework. Work with leadership and other business partners to help facilitate both internal & external compliance requirements.
  • Proactively support completion of policy administration and credit control processes.  Represent Marine Underwriting in any internal process audits and any response to external market conduct exams.

 

What You’ll Bring to the Role   

  • A minimum 7 years’ significant experience in Underwriting management and/or organization and/or processes management. Understanding of relevant technical and financial analysis of industrial underwriting cases or equivalent.
  • Successful track record of leadership of direct teams or complex matrix environments.
  • Experience of working internationally or with diverse cultures with strong ability for cross border adaption.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Actuarial studies, Business Administration, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, or Risk Management and Insurance.
  • Advanced knowledge in Excel and Database applications.
  • Ability to assess risk inherent exposures and (natural) hazards relevant to Marine and Property.
  • Business skills: break complex subjects into manageable pieces; determine status quo, business requirements, target and course of action.
  • Program Management as well as Methodological & Conceptual Skills: from individual task management to ability to manage large complex projects.
  • Consulting skills: relationship management, customer satisfaction, understand customer needs, build CBA & Business Case, facilitation, consult business.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze highly complex data, from multiple sources, in detail; identify and resolve issues before they transpire.
  • Strategic Planning: Ability to develop, implement and communicate strategies to address important trends or changes in the business.
  • Communication & Presentation: Ability to express ideas and messages clearly, both written and verbally.  Ability to "sell" an improvised or prepared audience winning story.

 

The annualized base pay range for this role is $130,988 to $224,550. The annual base salary range represents a nationwide market range. The actual salary for this position may be above and will be determined by several factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role, the skills, education, training, credentials, and experience of the candidate. The base pay is just one component of the AzC total compensation package. As part of our comprehensive compensation and highly rated benefits programs, employees are also eligible for annual performance-based cash incentive awards.
