Role Description
We are looking for a Casualty Specialist Risk Control Engineer, having a focus on Employers, Public and Products Liability, with previous experience in the insurance sector and / or as an industry Health and Safety practitioner. Construction sector experience an advantage.
The successful candidate will have access to a tailor made learning and development programme, so those still developing their skillset and / or progressing with their professional studies will be considered.
Reporting to the UK Loss Control Engineering, Technical Manager, you will be responsible for assisting the Casualty Technical Lead, providing loss control expertise, support and assistance to our customers and to assist Allianz underwriting in risk selection and retention.
You’ll provide ongoing co-ordination and monitoring of loss prevention activity, the servicing of assigned accounts and loss control survey work. You will develop and maintain professional working relationships with our Underwriting, Distribution, Communications and Claims teams, as well as with our clients and brokers.
Passionate about your fields of expertise, you will track technical developments and share knowledge with colleagues, looking for continual improvements in risk assessment criteria and tools in close alignment with Claims and Underwriting teams.

The role requires the successful applicant to be:
- Up to date with and ongoing development of your knowledge in respect of Casualty risk management and the implications of UK health and safety legislation.
- Liaising and collaborating with underwriting account and claims teams, aiding the development and implementation of underwriting strategy and standards in respect of technical developments, legislation and establish lessons learned, etc.
- Supporting the Casualty Technical Lead in the development and maintenance of technical training guidance and technical manuals.
- Supporting the Casualty Technical Lead in the design and delivery of technical learning and development skills within area of specialism for the wider Loss Control team.
- Carry out technical assessments and apply risk control measures for insured risks via; desk top reviews, on-site and remote surveys, for a wide variety of trades and industries. Able to attend site visits with brokers and clients to provide guidance on technical enhancements/improvements and thereby reduce the risk of injuries, ill-health and losses.
- Work with underwriting, clients and brokers to develop customized loss control engineering programs. Generate and review required reports and recommendations, presenting results to Underwriters, clients and brokers.
- Follow up on developments in your area and proactively engage in knowledge exchange with expert groups, providing support for training internal customers and external clients.
- Proactively support the development of data-based tools for simplified and optimized risk analysis.
About you:
- A Risk Control Engineer, specialising in or having a bias towards Casualty, and working within the insurance sector or as an industry health & safety practitioner.
- Additionally, experience with the Construction sector an advantage.
- A tailor made learning and development programme available for the successful candidate.
- Open-mindedness and curious with a commitment to remaining up-to-date with developments in this specialist field.
- Suitable and sufficient knowledge of UK health and safety legislation.
- Knowledge of health and safety requirements across a wide range of industries.
- Familiar with risk assessments, DSEAR, HAZOP and UK Regulatory compliance.
- Project planning and implementation.
- How insurance processes work in detail, having been in the industry or close to it.
- High proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint is essential.
- Digitalization projects and data analysis.
Professional membership and qualification requirements:
Ideally holding / progress towards Chartered or Certified Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health or equivalent, having successfully completed or progressing with an accredited Level 6 Occupational Health and Safety qualification.

- NEBOSH Level 6 National Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety Management Professionals.
- NVQ Level 6 Occupational Health and Safety Practice.
- BSc (Hons) in Safety, Health and Environmental Management.
- MSc Occupational Health, Safety and Well-being Management.
