Job Purpose

The Senior Manager, Tax, will be responsible for (i) tax reporting and compliance, (ii) tax management, (iii) tax planning and tax strategy, and (iv) project and M&A/ transaction tax support, for Allianz in the region (primarily focused on Insurance businesses). As the regional tax subject matter expert, you will be one of the key contacts for tax matters in the region, leading tax projects with minimal supervision, and this role will involve significant cross-team, function, and business liaison as well as interaction with regional tax/ finance and Allianz group tax (including with key stakeholders).

 

As the Senior Manager,Tax, you must be experienced in managing regional-level responsibilities given that Singapore is an APAC regional office and coupled with the increased complexity of tax legislation and diverse compliance obligations across the Asia-Pacific region. You must ensure tax risks are well managed in the region with different levels of sophistication of the tax authorities and business environment.

 

What you do 

You will:

Tax reporting and compliance

  • Oversee tax reporting of all Asian Operating Entity (OEs) and tax compliance activities in line with local and Group requirements including effective tax rate analysis, review of quarterly IFRS tax reporting delivered by OEs
  • Ensure a consistent approach to tax compliance, liaising with external tax agents preparing tax computations, returns, and submissions
  • Ensure compliance with GST/ VAT/ transfer pricing regulations across the Asia Pacific region      

 

Tax management

  • Performs tax risk management for Allianz in the region, including working with the respective Head of Tax in each Asian OEs
  • Identification and assessment of uncertain tax positions, review and handling of tax audits and controversies (including interaction with tax authorities and regulators)
  • Setting governance framework for the region/ implementing existing governance from the Allianz group/ Group Taxation

 

Tax planning and tax strategy

  • Coverage of tax services to all local Allianz OEs, esp. tax planning, international tax advice (tax treaties, withholding tax, global minimum tax), transfer pricing
  • Supports senior management on day-to-day tax queries
  • Monitoring and analysis of national and international tax developments (including BEPS Pillar 2) 

 

Project and M&A/ investment transaction tax support on regional and local projects of the OEs

  • Advisory on tax aspects of new M&A/ investment structures 
  • Negotiate tax-related clauses in SPAs, JVAs, subscription documents, side letters, etc
  • Supporting Group approval committees from a tax point of view

 

Teaming and collaboration

  • Builds interface and network with Head of Tax in each Asian OE and Group Tax in Germany
  • Actively participate and collaborate with the team to ensure effective communication and smooth workflow management by the team head
  • Share knowledge and best practices with the team members to support a culture of learning and growth

 

What you bring

  • Minimum 10 years experience as a Qualified Tax Adviser in tax, including 4 years experience in a senior-level position
  • Knowledge of insurance tax and international taxation with commercial acumen
  • Knowledge of IFRS tax accounting
  • Need to be an effective team player with a collaborative outlook
  • Solution-oriented behaviour for complex tasks/ processes combined with a hands-on mentality 
  • Self-motivated, demonstrating initiative and a proactive approach

  • Analytical Problem Solving: Ability to analyse highly complex data, from multiple sources, in detail; identify and resolve issues before they transpire.
  • Strong understanding of financials, cost management, and macroeconomic trends.
