What you do:

You are a technically strong life underwriter with a passion for continued development as a life underwriting subject matter expert. Under minimal supervision, you are able to assess the medical and financial risk for routine to highly complex cases up to $7,500,000 sign off authority, assigning the proper risk class to the case. You are interested in project work and are willing to adapt and pivot quickly if business needs change, although quality review will be the primary function of this role. You are willing to complete quality review on up to 70 files per month, entering data into the quality review database. You are willing to assist Production underwriters through providing technical support to the underwriting team through case review and education. You help train underwriter trainees formally in classroom work and informally through mentorship.

  • You are able to independently work through difficult formal and informal cases by reviewing medical records, medical exams, financial documents, telephone interviews, and other underwriting requirements to determine proper risk class assessment in accordance with company guidelines.
  • You will openly collaborate with numerous departments within Allianz Life, including Actuary, Risk and Controls, Quality Assurance, Claims, New Business, and the Special Investigations Unit.
  • You will work with underwriting leadership to provide continuous improvement to both quality review and training programs.  
  • You will serve as a role model to the Underwriting Department, demonstrating professionalism, encouraging the development of underwriting and new business staff, and providing leadership in the absence of the Director of Quality Risk Control and Training
  • You will build rapport with staff by providing education on our products, quality review findings, and underwriting philosophy.
  • You will correspond effectively with internal and external customers, including field and internal distribution partners, the medical community, reinsurers and vendors.
  • You will recommend improvements to the internal Underwriting guidelines, operational procedures, and standards.
  • You will participate on department projects as assigned.

 

What you bring:

  • 6-7 years’ experience required: Life underwriting Education
  • 8 years’ experience preferred: Life Underwriting
  • Four-year degree required: From an accredited school or appropriate related job experience
  • Graduate studies, AALU, or similar experience: In pursuit of a graduate degree, and/or risk selection coursework, or appropriate related job experience
