What you do
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer for Allianz Life, the COO develops, implements, and improves all aspects of our operations, service, and technology strategies. You will lead the following: Enterprise Operations, Technology and Transformation (which includes Information Technology, Strategic Systems, and Transformation Office/Shared Services (e.g. Central Project Office, Sourcing and Vendor Management)); Information Security and Business Controls/Protection and Resilience.
You will provide the leadership and strategy necessary to ensure our operating model is designed to support business growth and scaling, and lead customer and financial professional satisfaction and loyalty, while driving operational efficiency and quality. This process design and execution, includes operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures, project methodologies, risk identification, strategic systems, and enterprise-wide technology solutions. The COO will guide strategic enterprise-wide transformation plans, including Enterprise Operations transformation. The COO will build a pipeline of talent to ensure future growth of the business. The COO will also foster relationships within the industry and among distribution partners and Allianz Group colleagues to understand and use best practices within the business.
You will guide the technology strategy to support our priorities, and partners with Allianz Technology of America (ATA) on delivery of IT services to AZ Life. You will lead all service strategies and delivery for customers and distributors using capabilities to differentiate in the market. The COO will guide process optimization and productivity improvements to improve results and ensure compliance with regulatory and Allianz Group requirements.
You will be part of our Executive Leadership Group team, responsible for overall performance. The COO will also collaborate with the Group COO Community to lead Group plans and represent AZ Life's needs, performance, and technology/operational requirements and strategies with the Group.
Primary Responsibilities: Provides strategic leadership and vision to design and support an operating model that fosters business growth and customer satisfaction, while driving operational efficiency, quality, and promoting loyalty among customers and financial professionals. Set operations, service and technology strategies; develop operational models to lead customer and financial professional satisfaction and loyalty while ensuring operational efficiency and quality standards are met. Improve service models/strategies and promote culture of continuous improvement. Build operational controls to strengthen the protection and function, administrative and reporting procedures, project methodologies, risk identification, strategic systems and enterprise-wide technology solutions. Develop collaborative relationships across the Company and with the Group COO Community. Stay up to date with internal and external trends that have an impact on our company to facilitate both short-and long-term strategic plans to improve operational performance and enhance growth. Promote collaboration across the organization and within the Chief Operating Office division. Evaluate operational performance by analyzing data and creating goals and reporting working with Finance. Lead the reshaping of the culture to embrace and push the Company to be a strategic differentiator by improving service quality delivery, exceeding customer expectations and reducing costs of services and delivery. Analyze our trends and needs and assess functional responsibilities, competitive strengths and vulnerabilities. Build an organizational structure, operating standards that are responsive to our evolving needs. Cultivate industry relationships and establish connections with distribution partners and colleagues at Allianz Group to use best practices. Bring technology strategy supporting our priorities, partnering with Allianz Technology of America (ATA) on delivery of IT services to AZ Life. Improve processes, enhance productivity, and ensure regulatory compliance and adherence to Allianz Group's standards to achieve improved results.
Leadership and team effectiveness: Develop and energize multidiscipline teams to learn and apply new skills/techniques to our needs. Grow top talent, promoting a pipeline of diverse leaders and teams to build sustainable growth and support our future needs.

Promote collaboration, translates strategic goals into action plans and lead/motivate teams to accomplish plans. Lead change and new ideas; manage change by communicating the case for change and promoting a culture that excels at change. Inspire action and results; ensure desired outcomes are achieved. Customer-focused with the ability to handle complex situations and issues, sensitive to how people and our function. Have hands-on execution skills, providing advice and counsel to business leaders. Provide oversight and leadership of external delivery partners to lead service delivery.
Other: Deploys project management skills, including the ability to deploy resources of different diverse scope. Promote enterprise goals through ability to manage culture and technology changes. Collaborate and coordinates with Group partners (H4) and the COO Community on all applicable projects to apply Group standards and processes to the Allianz Life business model. Manage budget (~$430mn).
What you bring
- 11+ years leadership experience required in the Insurance industry
- Progressively greater responsibility for making administrative/procedural decisions and judgements
- Experience collaborating with executive leadership teams
- Experience with large-scale transformation plans
- Develop, plan, and implement short-and long-range goals and plans
- Continuous improvement experience
- Experience working with external suppliers, service providers, and customers/field; must have experience in IT vendor management and in managing IT capabilities
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required
