Job Purpose/Role

The Center of Competence - Life and Health (CLH) supports the execution of Allianz's Life agenda through strategy development, growth and business enabling,  provision of technical capabilities, and global/regional/local projects. 

WIthin CLH, the Protection team's mission is to enable profitable growth in Protection. This is achieved through 1) Leading Protection-specific group programs (i.e., the Protection Accelerator Program), 2) Supporting OEs with expert technical capabilities relevant to Protection (such as Underwriting and Claims), 3) Building and maintaining a community of Protection practitioners, enabling best practice exchange, and 4) Contributing to strategy development and performance management (SD/PD) from a protection perspective. 

In order to make a contribution towards improving Allianz Group's protection product offering, we are creating a new role within the Protection team focusing on protection product development. The purpose of the role is to identify improvement opportunities in our protection product offering, based on an understanding of market trends and the competitiveness of OE offerings, and on the back of this support major protection product development initiatives, both in a regional/international and a local context, as well as fostering product-related best practice sharing between OEs.

The candidate will be integrated into the Protection team within CLH, and have the opportunity to gain exposure to a wide set of (senior) stakeholders in the Life business


Key responsibilities

1) Identify improvement opportunities in our Protection Product offering
- Understand Protection product trends in key markets and competitors' flagship protection offerings
- Assess comprehensiveness and competitiveness of Protection product offering in key OEs and identify gaps
- Create transparency on local/regional Protection product development initiatives / product pipeline

2) Support specific product development initiatives
- Develop Protection product concepts with international applicability in line with strategic priorities (e.g., critical illness, service-based offerings, ...) and market to OEs
- Support specific local and regional product development initiatives with technical expertise (ranging from ad-hoc request, to regular project contribution, to partial secondment)
- Lead cross-OE working groups on specific product topics


3) Foster best practice sharing
- Build a community of protection product development experts
- Foster knowledge exchange through various formats


4) Contribute to the wider CLH agenda
- Contribute to strategic CLH topics from a protection perspective (e.g., Life ACM)

Reporting to (function): Head of Protection



  • Excellent University degree 
  • Actuarial qualification preferred 
  • Fluent in English 
  • Excellent MS-Office skills

Experience and key skills

  • At least 8-10+ years of experience in the insurance product development, more is welcomed
  • Deep technical knowledge in protection-product specifics, with demonstrated track record in protection product development
  • Good understanding of the entire protection value chain and in particular the areas adjacent to product development (e.g., underwriting)
  • Strong conceptual flair, ability to combine strategic thinking with technical skills
  • Strong communication skills, able to lead through influence
  • Proven project management skills and experience in project management in an international, multi-cultural environment
  • Proactive, high level of energy and drive, above average commitment and flexibility
  • Good knowledge of the Allianz organization in terms of structure and business model, ideally some prior international exposure
