As a member of the UW Strategy and Planning team in Global Commercial, the overall purpose of this role is to drive the delivery of global Mid Corp strategy and oversee the business performance of the Mid Corp portfolio, actively managing both good and bad performance.

The role is a maternity cover.  However there is strong likelihood this role could evolve to a permanent role.

This is an opportunity for an experienced (re)insurance professional that wishes to join a business with a significant market presence, strong balance sheet, and a clear commitment to technology.

  • Drive delivery of global MidCorp strategy by closely monitoring the progress made and impact acheived in close collaboration with OEs/Regions/Hubs and other relevant MidCorp functions
  • Prepare MidCorp specific forums of strategic relevance for the MidCorp (OE) community and keep track of all meetings of relevance with Global MidCorp ownership or participation and provide relevant content where needed
  • Supporting in the annual business planning process and quarterly business reviews
  • Orchestrate (horizontal) Strategic and Planning activities relevant for Global Commercial
  • Supporting the development and production of regular underwriting performance matters and technical trends 
  • Supervise analysis of the Commercial/MidCorp portfolio, market situation and AZ market position both qualitatively and quantitatively
  • Monitor implementation and impact of allocated OE action plans/KPIs; ensure clarity of portfolio actions & results
  • Develop strategic analytics, tools and insights to optimise portfolios and enable smarter underwriting decisions. Be an advocate for the use of data to support decision making.
  • Identify underlying portfolios issues & opportunities and translate them into recommendations and options for improvement, both at strategic and technical levels
  • Make recommendations for Underwriter training and work with the Global P&C Academy to ensure a programme of work is followed.
  • Work with Regions/OEs/Hubs to drive identification of growth opportunities, segmentation, and development of distribution channels as well as adaption of products and risk appetite
  • Actively scan the external market and data

Key Requirements/Skills/Experience

  • University degree in actuarial, economics, engineering with insurance focus
  • Strong focus on strategy building, implementation and result monitoring
  • Proven project management skills
  • Absolute “can do” attitude, high degree of motivation and entrepreneurial thinking, proactive and committed working style,
  • Strong financial and business acumen, ability to analyze data from multiple sources, financial planning and controlling skills. Distinctive execution capabilities go along with conceptual and analytical thinking
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; passion for relationship and network building with the ability to flex style of interaction depending on cultures, people and matrix management responsibilities
  • Strong ability to prioritize, focus and influence w/o having disciplinary authority
  • Strong Excel and Powerpoint skills
  • Fluent English (written and spoken). Additional core market language skills would be beneficial
