Role Description

An exciting opportunity to work in the Mid-Market Portfolio Steering Team with a particular focus on Property, Casualty, Motor Trade and Financial Lines.

 

The Mid-Market Portfolio Steering Team sits within the Technical Underwriting department, and closely works with the Underwriting Account Teams, Underwriting Branches, Pricing, Data and Actuarial teams to provide recommendations and decisions to support the profitable management of the Mid-Market lines of business

 

The diverse nature of the role means that we welcome applicants with a wide range of backgrounds. Experience in Commercial Underwriting, Pricing, Actuarial, Data or other disciplines within the Commercial Insurance sector are all equally valuable to this growing team.

 

This role would be perfect for an ambitious underwriter looking to obtain exposure to senior stakeholders in the company, or looking to upskill data capabilities while using their advanced underwriting knowledge.

 

You will contribute to the development, production and analysis of data, using appropriate data feeds to create actionable business insight to the Property& Casualty or Motor Trade team whilst deputising on a secondary line of business to provide the greatest depth of analysis and insight in the reporting.

 

The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Producing and presenting steering insights on a regular basis to underwriting teams, informing stakeholders how best to act on current trends affecting the portfolio
  • Owning the reporting and data analysis of the P&C or Motor Trade Account, using this data to create actionable insight to provide to the account team to consider implementing into the account strategy
  • Taking proactive ownership of the analysis of data and provision of insight on current and emerging trends, both internal and external, that effect our insurance lines of business and results
  • Provide appropriate data production and reporting, ensuring the portfolio mix is aligned with strategy and ensuring appropriate balance of growth and ultimate profitability is realised, resulting in achievement of Corporate Plan objectives
  • Support the data teams in the production and creation of core data sets for new tooling and products, including liaising with the regions and account teams to understand emerging data needs
  • Grow an understanding of multiple commercial lines of business to be able to simplify reporting and cross pollinate ideas between account teams
  • Work alongside the pricing team to shape, develop and embed new and existing pricing methodologies into the portfolio rhythm

 

About You

Skills & Experience

  • Experience in Underwriting / Commercial Insurance Industry or experience in technical data roles
  • Creativity in using information to deliver actionable insight
  • Ability to visualise data to support constructive conversation and persuade your audience using data-led decision making
  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills, with the ability to communicate findings to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Commercial awareness and knowledge of the UK Insurance Market.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Establishes and maintains credible internal and external relationships with key stakeholders
  • Ability to prepare reports with a high attention to detail
  • Makes consistently sound decisions in own area of expertise or responsibility and refers when appropriate.
  • Data manipulation, interpretation and visualisation skills to deliver insight to the business
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel – or a willingness to upskill in this area
  • Knowledge of SAS Enterprise Guide or experience with SQL – or a willingness to upskill in this area
  • Experience with visualisation tools such as MicroStrategy or Qlik Sense – or a willingness to upskill in this area
  • ACII qualified or progression towards

  • Proven ability to understand key underwriting concepts and principles

  • Adept at data analysis, manipulation and interpretation
  • Proactive in understanding new requirements and implementing these needs

  • Effective planning and organisation skills
