Please note that the option of remote working may be explored.


The Opportunity

As part of the Religious and Education Team you will join a specialist team who underwrite Religious and Education business such as schools, crèches, parishes and Religious Orders.


Working proactively with Broker partners and Allianz Customer Relationship Executives you will be responsible for underwriting and managing a portfolio of renewals and new business opportunities that are aligned to our risk appetite.  Also you will proactively engage with internal stakeholders in Sales, Pricing and Portfolio Management and deliver against agreed GWP targets to support our overall strategy.  Ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction to our brokers and direct customers and deploying technical expertise through superior underwriting are principle objectives of this role.



Role Responsibilities:

  • Profitably underwrite Religious and Education renewals and new business opportunities to achieve GWP and profitability targets
  • Oversee the end to end customer outcome of allocated renewals and new business submissions aligned to target KPI’s
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships within the team, other areas of the business and external stakeholders  to deliver on collective goals
  • Balance speed of turnaround with the technical requirements of the role to deliver on renewal retention and new business conversion
  • Engage with internal stakeholders in Sales, Pricing and Portfolio management to negotiate terms  and conduct detailed risk assessment and acceptance within existing Delegated Underwriting Authority (DUA) framework agreements
  • Share knowledge and technical expertise with colleagues, contribute to personal and team technical development
  • Identify and implement improvements in process, proposition or service to best serve our customer base
  • Manage and develop relationships with intermediaries
  • Maintain and develop strong interpersonal and negotiation skills to support key client and broker engagements


Essential Experience

  • A minimum 3 years’ experience in underwriting Commercial property and liability insurance
  • CIP qualification (or significant progress towards same)
  • Experience in business development, achieving targets, technical underwriting


Desirable Experience

  • Specialist experience in underwriting Religious and Education business
  • Experience in a commercial underwriting role in commercial or general insurance
  • Proven track record in terms of meeting challenging underwriting targets
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word and client management systems such as Salesforce
  • Evidence of having successfully managed customer/broker relationships in previous roles
