What you do:

As a Senior Actuarial Expert, you will carry out reserve analyses and deep dive profitability reviews (both proactively and in response to concerning KPIs) for the Financial Lines portfolios.   Analyzing the profitability of individual programs and/or business segments as required.  You will drive forward work and initiatives in your area of responsibility and are able to independently set and manage your own priorities. You will help develop global actuarial approaches and will guide, support and develop junior team members.  You’ll engage in discussions with senior management and partner with other AGCS departments and Group functions.

 

Responsibilities:

In this role you will…

  • Keep abreast of market trends and practices and drive innovation.
  • Promote close collaboration and interaction with the various business areas to foster mutual understanding of how business developments impact actuarial drivers in the financials, including strong collaboration with the pricing and portfolio management teams in Financial Lines.
  • Understand market developments globally and regionally, ensuring loss trends are understood and reflected in underwriting activities. 
  • Manage and drive forward areas of responsibility or projects, including coordination of global, cross team projects as required.
  • Peer review work from other team members.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior team members.
  • Develop global actuarial approaches and processes as well as enhance actuarial models and analyses.

 

To be successful in the role:

You will have…

  • FCAS or near-FCAS designation;
  • Experience successfully driving large assignments;
  • Knowledge with regards to financial lines market dynamics, actuarial concepts and approaches, regulations/compliance standards, reporting requirements (e.g., reinsurance and underwriting knowledge, reserving techniques, data flows, etc.);
  • Understanding of complexities inherent in an insurance group (consolidation processes, legal vs management view, Reinsurance, etc..) allowing for cross-departmental thinking and acting;
  • Ability to make sense of and respond to complex/ambiguous situations by identifying and initiating appropriate remediation and follow up, proactively anticipating and resolving issues;
  • Ability to understand, elaborate and convey information clearly and effectively with respect to the audience/level of management (both verbally and in writing);
  • The ability to positively influence others' actions, decisions, opinions or thinking resulting in positive outcomes;
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office, including VBA and relevant expert systems such as R, SQL, Java, etc.);
  • Experience peer reviewing others work;
  • Bachelor’s Degree (or Master’s), preferably in Mathematics, Statistics or other appropriate discipline or qualified by experience in related discipline; and
  • Willingness to travel.
