Job Purpose/Role:

 

In your role as Underwriter, you will support the Regional Lead Underwriter Entertainment in building up a profitable and sustainable Entertainment portfolio in the Region. You will underwrite profitable new and renewal business of the Entertainment Line of Business in Asia, offering Film/TV/Commercials and Live Entertainment (Contingency, event liability & property). You will be responsible for the negotiation of participation, pricing, terms and conditions. In addition to that, you will develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and clients. Furthermore, you will support the global Entertainment Chief Underwriting Office (CUO) with regional and global expansion and product development activities.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Underwrite Profitable Business

  • Underwrite Film/TV/Commercials, Live and Contingency new and renewal risks to meet top and bottom-line targets (local and/or regional).
  • Ownership of certain accounts / clients.
  • Ensure and understand accumulation control / modelling, catastrophe modelling and interpretation of scenarios if applicable.
  • Negotiate participation, pricing and terms and conditions with brokers.

 

Underwriting Approach and Compliance

  • Support development of wordings / guidelines for international expansion.
  • Underwrite with governance framework (Underwriting Authorities, Underwriting Guidelines, Rules, Principles).
  • Ensure contract certainty is achieved on all accounts at time of inception.
  • Ensure utilization of global pricing tools.
  • Ensure placing and binding of FAC Reinsurance prior to policy inception.

 

Policy Documentation and Administration

  • Ensure accurate policy documentation issued to broker.
  • File maintenance – ensure file is established and maintained for each risk and transaction handled.
  • Proactively support completion of policy administration and credit control processes.

 

Market Management

  • Proactively support acquisition of new business and retention of existing business.

 

Relationship Management

  • Positively represent AGCS externally to the market.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key brokers and clients and other relevant stakeholders.

 

Support Underwriting Strategy & Leadership

  • Support development and execution of Entertainment regional and global Underwriting strategy.

 

Key Experience / Requirements / Skills:

 

Required Experience

  • Proven track record in Underwriting profitable business in this line of business (LoB). Understanding of LoB products and portfolio.
  • Demonstrable, established relationships with brokers at peer group level.
  • Good understanding of regional / local LoB insurance markets and competitor landscape.
  • Understanding of legal and regulatory framework.
  • Experience working in complex, global matrix organization.

 

Required Education

  • Preferably a degree in Economics, Law, or other appropriate discipline.
  • Progress towards professional insurance qualification (e.g., CII).

 

Technical Skills

  • Risk Assessment and Management: Ability to assess risk inherent exposures and natural hazards relevant to LoB.
  • Pricing and Market Management: Analyse current performance against benchmarks applying how the market operates and functions, the business needs and customer needs.
  • Contract Drafting and Interpretation: Design, develop and implement consistent, robust wordings.
  • Policy Management: Robust understanding of policy administration life cycle, information collection, policy issuance, premium bookings, credit control, cancellation.

 

General Skills

  • Communication skills: Clearly and effectively express ideas and messages via speech or writing.
  • Influencing skills: Ability to persuade and motivate others to act, without executive authority.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to effectively absorb information from various sources, then analyse, study or examine data in detail, and draw appropriate conclusions.
