Hi Redeat, can tell us about yourself and what you do?

 

I was born and raised in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. I moved to Germany for my undergrad degree as a teenager and have been residing here ever since. With a background of Business Administration and Business Informatics, I have been working as a Financial Application specialist at Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty for over five years. During this time I utilized the broad career opportunities within the Group and the One Allianz strategy that provided me the chance to go on a one year assignment with Allianz Africa. On this assignment, I was acting as the Transformation Coordinator of Allianz Africa. Since coming back from my assignment, I had prospects to work in different projects and currently in the position of Scrum Master.

Why did you decide to join Allianz?

 

If I look back at five years ago, one of the main reasons why I decided to join Allianz was the diversity of the team. As you are spending the majority of your life with your colleagues, it is crucial to choose the environment that you feel most comfortable in. Within Allianz, I am able to work with colleagues from all over the world that appreciate and respect my culture. They are willing to learn and teach cultural differences, are open to different points of view and support out of the box ideas.

How did you get involved in the Allianz GRACE network?

 

We can all agree that 2020 was indeed a very challenging time for most of us. Especially, for people of color all over the world, it brought additional stress to see inhumanity and injustices on such a scale. Hence, some enthusiastic people on this topic got together and agreed that it was necessary to create an employee group that addresses racial matters. The aim of this network is to create awareness, tackle biases, create career opportunities as well as celebrate the wide multi-cultural diversity that is found within Allianz. Allianz GRACE is both a platform where people from varied cultural backgrounds tackle such sensitive topics as well as an educational tool that pushes for tangible changes within the company.
