Finding confidence through the Graduate Program: Nancy’s first year at Allianz
Stepping into the Allianz Graduate Program marked a major transition for Nancy. Fresh from university, she was excited to begin full‑time work, but also conscious that she was entering a completely new industry for the first time.
“I was definitely nervous,” she says. “I didn’t know much about insurance or what my day‑to‑day would look like, but I was really curious and excited to learn something new.”
That mix of curiosity and uncertainty is something the Graduate Program is designed to support.

Exploring General Insurance through rotations
As part of the General Insurance stream, Nancy has been able to explore the breadth of Allianz through multiple rotations, working across Technical, Consumer and Commercial teams in very different roles.
“Being able to rotate across different parts of the business has been one of the best parts of the program,” she explains. “It’s helped me understand what I enjoy, what I’m good at, and where I still want to grow.”
Working on different projects and with a variety of teams has given Nancy a clearer sense of where she would like to build her career by the end of the program.

Learning beyond the classroom
Nancy’s experience in the Graduate Program has also reshaped how she thinks about learning and development.
“At uni, learning felt very structured. You’d study, sit exams, then move on,” she says. “Since starting full‑time work, I’ve realised how continuous learning really is.”
Most of her growth now comes from day‑to‑day experiences, asking questions, making mistakes, receiving feedback, and applying new knowledge in real time.
“It’s less about having all the answers and more about being open, adapting as you go, and getting comfortable with not knowing everything straight away.”

Growing into her voice
One of the clearest signs of growth for Nancy has been the shift in how she shows up at work.
“At the start, I was more focused on listening and understanding,” she reflects. “Over time, I started contributing more confidently in meetings and sharing my perspective without second‑guessing myself.”
That transition from observing to actively contributing marked an important change in both confidence and mindset.

Supported from day one
Support has been a defining feature of Nancy’s Graduate Program experience. From the beginning, she was paired with a grad buddy and sponsor, with regular check‑ins continuing throughout the year.
“It’s been really valuable having people I can go to for advice or just to talk things through,” she says.
The graduate cohort has also played a key role, creating a sense of connection through shared experiences, informal catch‑ups, and open conversations about rotations and future pathways. Across every team she has joined, Nancy has felt genuinely supported and encouraged to learn.

Looking ahead
As she continues through the program, Nancy is focused on building confidence, capability, and clarity about where she can make the biggest impact.
“There’s still so much to explore,” she says. “I’m excited to keep learning, develop my technical skills, and grow into someone who can take ownership of meaningful work and contribute to bigger decisions.”
