Underwriting Manager - Large Case Unit
Provides technical expertise for underwriting department and charged with assessing risk on our largest and most complex risks. Formally leads a group of production underwriters focused specifically on large complex cases. Leads the expansion of and support for key life insurance accounts through timely underwriting and operational support. Underwrites and provides new business support, and documenting financial and underwriting related business rules across the Life Division (where they may not currently exist). Create and lead life-underwriting function of reporting, metrics and analytics through establishing reporting infrastructure and activity tracking system. Maintains and builds off the underwriting philosophy to provide competitive and responsible underwriting decisions. Provides technical expertise for the underwriting department. Underwrites larger, highly complex cases; has a signature authority up to $20M and will have second signature authority up to 50M.
Essential Job Functions:~crlf~• Support and guide the underwriting team: lead the large case underwriting team to support specific FMO or Strategic/National Accounts. Serve as the relationship underwriting manager for large case life cases in all financial and underwriting relevant matters with multiple internal partners. ~crlf~• Establish a strong rapport and relationship with all of our reinsurance carriers.~crlf~• Responsible to ensure all key financial and underwriting deliverables and metrics are in place and on track to goal.~crlf~• Responsible for monitoring trends and recommending solutions to senior management.~crlf~• Work with Actuarial, life strategy, product innovation, and other key contributors to strengthen reinsurance relationships and develop new products, processes, and~crlf~ procedures.~crlf~• Responsible for managing underwriting quality and decisions with internal and external Life Distribution.~crlf~• Works with Office of the Chief and other underwriting leadership to build support appeals committee, quality control process, and support innovation for future underwriting strategies.~crlf~ ~crlf~
Requirements:~crlf~• 6-7 year experience required – Life Underwriting specifically with large complex cases~crlf~• 5+ year experience leading an Underwriting team~crlf~• Preferred: FALU designation; FMLI designation; CLU or ChFC designation~crlf~• 4 year degree or equivalent experience~crlf~
