Job Purpose/Role 

 

We are looking for a motivated and investigative seasoned actuary. The main tasks will include actuarial analysis of the loss position of Short Tail lines encompassing model development and refinement, actuarial analysis, peer reviews, and training and developing actuarial skills within the team. You enjoy working within an international environment and with a team of diverse skill sets.

 

Moreover, you will work closely with Underwriting, Claims, and Pricing teams to challenge and incorporate their input and to present and explain your analysis and findings.

 

You will report directly to the Global Head of Short Tail lines reserving and be based in Munich. You will ensure that the team leader can focus on strategic matters by processing delegable tasks. You also participate in important projects where the involvement of the manager's office is necessary.


Responsibilities

 

In this role you will…

 

•    Support the team leader to actively steer actuarial results for Short Tail lines with a forward-looking view to bring transparency for a clear understanding of the quarterly and annual Actuarial P&L impacts and trends.
•    Execute advanced actuarial analysis to understand profitability, trends, underlying patterns, update loss provisions, etc.
•    Promote close collaboration and interaction with the various business areas (Allianz SE Holding Company, Underwriting, Planning & Performance Management (P&PM), Claims, CFO, etc.) by being the key contact person for your selected line of business globally and/or region.
•    Drive innovation and efficiency in all our processes, particularly to improve annual reserve review quality and control and understand quarterly/monthly impacts for Short Tail lines. 
•    Prepare professional, high-standard actuarial reports.
•    Peer review work from other team members and provide training and guidance to junior colleagues.    


To be successful in the role:

 

You will have….
            
•    Excellent tertiary qualification (ideally Master), preferably in Mathematics, Statistics or other appropriate discipline or qualified by experience in a related discipline.
•    Actuarial certification and membership in a recognized professional society.
•    Minimum 7-10 years of experience in reserving, thereof large part in Short Tail lines reserving; experience in corporate P&C sector is preferred.
•    Analytical thinking and problem-solving ability to identify appropriate solutions for business challenges.
•    Experience in developing/enhancing and implementing models/analysis and processes.
•    Proven expertise communicating with stakeholders on a clear and structured way, to make technical actuarial topics accessible to diverse audiences.
•    Ability to positively influence others’ actions, decisions, opinions and motivate others without direct authority         

Ideally you will also have…

•    Basic audit knowledge: understanding specific topics in area of audit/ financial reporting/ risk management and knowledge of regulatory requirements (SOX, etc.)
•    Product-related skills: understanding and knowledge of product portfolio (in particular, energy, construction, or construction defects insurance)
•    Experience in managing finance third parties: interfacing to external audit, to decentralized decision support, to Business Units
