Job Description:

  • Lead a team of underwriters to underwrite profitable new and renewal business to meet Middle Market Property targets regionally and/or globally    
  • Ensure underwriters comply with underwriting authority; and pricing and rating guidelines 
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and clients in partnership with Market Management                                                                
  • Ownership of large accounts / clients and ultimate responsibility for accounts within team
  • Lead and manage team, training and development of team and referral point for other underwriters

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Manage team of Underwriters
    • Delegate tasks to team in order to achieve overall results
    • Manage/supervise team client accounts and act as point of referal and/or escalation for issues
    • Manage cost center budget within plan

 

  • Underwriting Strategy & Leadership
    • Contribute to development and execution of regional Underwriting strategy for LoB
    • Manage referrals from underwriters and spokes and re-underwrite complex business as appropriate
    • May be responsible for particular sub-LoB or area within regional team and to act as a "champion" for any matters relating to it 

 

  • Underwrite Profitable business
    • Underwrite new and renewal accounts to meet top and bottom line targets 
    • Negotiate price and terms and conditions with brokers
    • Proactively manage capacity 
    • Underwrite and evaluate Natural Catastrophe Accumulation, ensuring

 

  • Underwriting Approach and Compliance
    • Responsible for you and your team to underwrite within line with LoB governance framework - e.g.
    • Underwriting Authorities, global MSU, Underwriting Guidelines, Rules and Principles 
    • Ensure contract certainty is achieve

 

  • Market Management and Key Business iniatives
    • Proactively support acquisition of new business and retention of existing business  (including client and producer negotiations where necessary)
    • Proactively liaise with MMC on market management initiatives    

 

  • Relationship Management
    • Positively represent AGCS externally to the market
    • Proactively drive involvement of functional areas in Underwriting process, including e.g. MMC, ARC, Claims, Operations
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key brokers and clients

 

Job Requirements:

  • Over 7 years with a proven track record in Underwriting profitable business in LoB with c. 10 plus years' experience; demonstrated leadership skills. 
  • 7+ years of experience establishing relationships with brokers at peer group level and well established within local market
  • 5+ years of in depth understanding of Lob products and portfolio, as well as regional / local LoB (s) insurance markets and competitor landscape
  • Advanced knowledge of Portfolio Management:
    • Manage the underwriting books.
    • Analyze trends and scenario plans from which portfolio strategies can be developed and implemented. 
  • Advanced Knowledge of Pricing:
    • Analyze current performance against various benchmarks with a view to ensure adequate progress and satisfactory performance
  • Preferably Degree in Economics, Law, or other appropriate discipline
  • The annualized base pay range for this role is $118,825-$212,767. The annual base salary range represents a nationwide market range. The actual salary for this position may be above and will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate. The base pay is just one component of the AGCS total compensation package. As part of our comprehensive compensation and highly rated benefits programs, employees are also eligible for annual performance-based cash incentive awards.
