In the Data Scientist role, you will support our pricing actuarial team with insights gained from analyzing company pricing and rate development data. You will use large data sets to find opportunities for optimization and use models to test the effectiveness of different courses of action. Through the use of a variety of data mining and analysis methods and tools, you will build and implement predictive models, using/creating algorithms and running simulations to optimize rate making processes and other actuarial functions.

  • Lead and conduct analytics projects, providing detailed written and verbal analysis of analytical initiatives.
  • Mine and analyze partner data to develop and communicate customer segment profiles, discover opportunities among partner and prospect segments, and recommend improvements in customer segmentation methodologies.
  • Build predictive models to improve and optimize customer experience, revenue, and profitability as well as other business outcomes.
  • Evaluate market tests and experiments to iteratively develop a deeper and more complex understanding of consumer behavior.
  • Drive the collection of new data and the refinement of existing data sources.
  • Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new business tools, techniques, and processes for incorporation into company and department best practices.
  • Partner with internal departments on projects where data analysis reporting or marketing expertise is necessary




  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Math, Analytics, Marketing, or other quantitative field.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches.
  • Experience in the insurance or financial services industries preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques and their real-world advantages and drawbacks to include predictive modeling and GLM analysis.
  • Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts, including regression, properties of distributions, statistical tests, and proper usage, as well as experience with applications.
  • Experience using statistical computer languages and packages, such as R, Python, and JMP, to manipulate data and draw insights from large, complex data sets.
  • Ability to query relational databases using SQL.
  • Proficiency with business intelligence tools including Cognos, BusinessObjects, and Tableau preferred.
  • Expert-level proficiency with Microsoft Office suite to include VBA.
  • Ability to manage projects independently, handle a fast-paced professional office environment, and foster excitement around an analytical business culture.
  • Ability to demonstrate client empathy and focus, recognize the importance of clients to the organization’s success, and understand how your work impacts the client experience.
