How can building relationships lead to building outcomes with impact?


Reporting initially into the Manager of the Western Region the primary purpose of this Production Underwriter role is to underwrite in accordance with company guidelines and delegated authority levels. This position will also provide and manage quotations for new business and exception renewals according to agreed service standards.


You'll be responsible for:

  • Developing and maintaining best in market relationships across an assigned panel of Brokers
  • Ensuring business bound is aligned with divisional objectives as well as growth and profit portfolio balance
  • Identifying profitable new business opportunities and maximise conversion or strike rate of desired business
  • Maximising the retention of preferred accounts and work with Underwriters to ensure timely review of exception renewal business
  • Facilitating planned strategy meetings with Account Managers
  • Keeping abreast of market conditions, trends and provide feedback to team members and act to capitalise on new business opportunities
  • Monitoring the quality of individual and team work, ensuring underwriting procedures are being adhered to
  • Underwrite insurance risks in area of responsibility, adhering to underwriting guidelines and standards



Important to your success:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and industry accreditations, where necessary
  • Significant experience in an operational, commercial underwriting role in a complex, matrixed general insurance organisation
  • Adept at proactively building and maintaining professional relationships and networks to enhance industry positioning, exchange knowledge and elicit beneficial outcomes
  • Ability to plan and prioritise effectively, organise tasks and manage competing resources and demands.
  • Comprehensive understanding of relevant regulatory and/or legislative compliance requirements that impact the organisation
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm and ability to optimise business value to customers by delivering high quality services and positive customer experiences to sustain and enhance the customer base
  • Proven analytical and critical thinking capability to interpret and analyse a range of data, identify patterns, trends and links that inform judgements and solutions
  • Pay high attention to detail by completing tasks with thoroughness and accuracy and has the ability to quickly identify errors or inconsistencies within information
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of communicating with clarity, impact and influence.
