What you do:
The Tax Technology Manager is responsible for managing the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of the Company's tax technology solutions, tax software, and tax document/data systems. This comes with a guiding mandate of continuous improvement and a focus on enabling and empowering the tax department to achieve process efficiency, operational excellence, and insightful analytics. The Tax Manager will work with a cross-functional team of tax professionals, as well as business partners to ensure the highest level of quality in our tax compliance and reporting processes.
In addition to integrating with global teams, the role directly supports the U.S. tax function, which serves operating entities in the life insurance, property and casualty insurance, asset management, and corporate categories. Some of the tax processes supported include, U.S. Federal and State Income Tax Compliance, Tax Accounting Functions, Federal and State Income Tax Advocacy, U.S. Premium Tax, State Sales and Use Tax, Tax Legislative Modeling, and Tax Research and Planning. The Tax Manager will serve as an advisor and partner to these and other tax teams brining solutions and recommendations to unique and emerging problems.
The role also leads the US Tax Teams continuous technology training initiative conducting multiple trainings through the year for tax professionals of all levels.
In addition, the Tax Manager will have responsibility over managing the following for a limited number of operating entities: Tax compliance, including overseeing the accuracy and timely filing of income tax returns and managing the estimated tax payment and tax settlement processes. Tax accounting processes potentially including monthly and quarterly tax provisions, tax payable reconciliations, calculating and/or recording of federal and state provision to returns, and tax attribute tracking. Assist with the evaluation and reporting of the tax implications of business and industry changes, legislative and judicial developments, and key audit findings. Assist with planning and forecasting process.
The ideal candidate will have experience developing tax process solutions using Microsoft Products (Excel, Power BI, SharePoint, OneDrive) and/or similar automation tools such as Alteryx, extensive knowledge of CSC corptax's compliance and provision modules, and have experience interfacing with enterprise level systems such as SAP.
This person will report to the AZOA (Allianz of America) Tax Director.
Key Responsibilities:
Tax Compliance and/or Tax provisions/Audits
- Manages and/or prepares accurate tax returns, estimated payments and extensions
- Manages and/or prepares accurate preparation of tax provisions, account reconciliations, and requested data analysis
- Understands relevant issues and raises them to leadership
Data Analysis
- Design, build, and maintain tax related analytic reports
- Effectively communicate data & findings to key decision makers and stakeholders to drive strategic business decision making
- Review the accuracy of income tax data regarding taxability, reconciliations, correct taxing jurisdictions, asset classification and verify tax rates
Process Improvements/Internal Controls/Tax Technology
- Execute on and continuously improve team process, standards, documentation, and other best practices
- Collaborate with multiple departments and teams (e.g. IT, accounting, global teams) in designing optimal process solutions
- Manage and maintain the departments tax related data while ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations
- Identity and evaluate tax technology risks and design mitigating measures.
- Develop and document process improvements and internal controls as required by Allianz.
- Execute on optimization of Tax Portal in completing tax processes and controls
Research/Planning
- Assists with tax research and planning as needed.
Training/Questions
- Provide training to business partners and tax professionals of all levels on income tax and technology topics
What you bring:
- 6+ years of experience required in Tax
- Bachelor's degree required in Accounting or related field
- Strong technical skills in tools (Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint, PowerBI, etc.)
- Public accounting experience preferred
- CPA preferred
