What you do:

Allianz is transforming the global storage environment and operational capabilities including North America data centers. This initiative supports all business units in North America, based on architecture, standards and project methodology developed by colleagues in our European Region.  Project scope includes the transition of service from a third-party service provider to an Allianz Technology team. As the one of the senior-most subject matter experts on technology, this position will lead and manage Allianz (N. America) storage engineering services and operations activities.


  • Leadership of the storage services team, providing direction and leadership for daily operational activities of storage engineering and support.  This also includes managing prioritization operations, implementation and project work.  The work of the storage team includes:
    • Design, configure, maintain the storage technologies platform in a global environment
    • Drive capacity planning & enhanced monitoring for proactive enhancements of the Storage environment
    • Service delivery of block storage and network attached storage (NAS) and replication of data to meet the business RTO/RPO requirements
    • Document standards, knowledge base articles, and processes
    • Collaborate with cross functional groups to design and implement complex solutions
    • Defining storage business requirements
    • Ensure delivered solutions meet SLA’s
  • Develop storage roadmaps to support business requirements and/or new technologies
  • Drive technical delivery of storage projects from inception through development and approval
  • Work collaboratively with the all Allianz Technology operational teams to ensure optimal end user experience, meeting or exceeding SLA’s and OLA’s
  • Participate in the lifecycle management – with an emphasis on automation and support of new technologies
  • Responsible for the technical development and deployment of the storage platform to new business units
  • Responsible for working with architects and leadership on continual service development of the Storage platform. 
    • Evaluate performance and quality of existing solutions
    • Evaluate and review new solutions and assist in roadmap development of the storage environment to continually improve technical services delivery
    • Develop and evaluate POCs for new products or services with respect to engineering delivery of those solutions
    • Transition POCs and pilots into new services, including build, implementation, deploy, and transition to operations
  • Provide project support and guidance to company-wide projects/initiatives
  • Identify and staff engineering support for infrastructure projects that support storage
  • Responsible for storage capacity planning / review with Service Delivery Management and Architecture team to meet existing and future business needs
  • Responsible for providing technical direction for vendor Work Request Forms, including solution review and discussions, documenting requirements in the Work Request Form, and oversight, support, and guidance to vendors from estimate to delivery of the requested work


What you bring:

  • Undergraduate degree in IT field or equivalence in experience
  • 10+ years in storage solutions
  • 5+ years experience in a global lead/management role
  • Experience with managing third party service providers is required
  • Expert skills in Microsoft Windows Server 2008/2012/2016 Operating Systems
  • Expert skills in block storage platforms such as IBM, Pure, EMC and Hitachi
  • Expert Skills in productivity tools including scripting technologies like PERL, C# and Vbasic
  • Strong understanding of best practices around security in a virtual/physical end-user environment
  • Strong technology stack troubleshooting skills
  • Knowledge of IBM SVC, Netapp, EMC and Hitachi replication and recovery technologies
  • Knowledge of diverse storage and operating systems technologies
  • Strong Active Directory, Group Policy skills
  • Strong communication and presentation skills at an enterprise level
  • An excellent team player who values the importance of customer service
  • A strong desire to establish best practice standards
  • Experience developing roadmaps and strategies
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate and influence solution design and delivery
  • Ability to lead and direct the work of others
  • Coordination and facilitation of inter-departmental committees, stakeholders and/or team


Preferred skills:

  • Executive management exposure and support on significant initiatives with large dollar spend
  • Experience with governance in outsourced model and ability to drive the appropriate accountabilities
  • Experience working in global shared services organization and managing business integration, communication and adoption
  • Negotiation, influence and relationship management strengths
  • Experience with process improvement and operational efficiency projects - both leading and supporting
  • Ability to work successfully in a matrix management organization – many leaders and decision-makers need to be engaged and communicated to
