The Impact You Will Have  

Reporting to the Head of Marine Hull GER/SUI, you will play a crucial role in shaping our Marine Hull portfolio. You will work closely with clients and brokers to craft personalized solutions, while also building and strengthening key relationships. Your impact will be seen in the profitable underwriting of new and renewal businesses, ensuring that regional and global portfolio targets are met. Additionally, you will be responsible for negotiating participation, pricing, and terms, as well as driving the acquisition of new business and the retention and handling of existing clients on a daily basis. Your expertise and strategic approach will directly contribute to our success in a competitive market. 

 

Some of your specific responsibilities could include: 

  • You will underwrite by the Marine governance framework, including Underwriting Authorities, Guidelines, Rules, and Principles. 

  • You will be responsible for underwriting within the Yacht and Brownwater sectors, ensuring tailored risk assessment and coverage solutions for these specialized marine areas. 

  • You will ensure contract certainty is achieved for all accounts at the time of inception. 

  • You will drive the involvement of functional areas in the underwriting process, such as Market Management, Risk Consulting, Claims, and Operations. 

  • You will manage referrals from underwriters and re-underwrite complex business as needed. 

  • You will contribute to the development and execution of the regional underwriting strategy for Marine Hull. 

  • You will create and maintain positive relationships with key producers, clients, and other relevant stakeholders. 

  • You will ensure accurate policy documentation is issued to producers or verify that producers have issued documentation as required. 

  • You will support the acquisition and retention of business by providing strategic underwriting solutions. 

 

What You’ll Bring to the Role 

  • You have knowledge or practical experience gained through professional experience, education, or training. 

  • You are CII qualified or working towards it, or hold an equivalent qualification. 

  • You have at least 3 years of experience as an Underwriter, Broker, or in a relevant role within the Marine sector, ideally including Marine Hull, Brown Water, and Pleasure Craft. 

  • You can assess risk exposures relevant to Marine Hull products. 

  • You can analyze performance against benchmarks, understanding market operations, business needs, and customer requirements. 

  • You possess a robust understanding of the policy administration life cycle, including information collection, policy issuance, premium bookings, credit control, and cancellations. 

  • You can communicate ideas clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing. 

  • You can build relationships and communicate across various levels with a wide range of people. 

  • You are skilled at persuading and motivating others to take action without direct authority. 

  • You embrace agile working and continuous learning, adapting to both internal and external customer needs. 

  • You can effectively absorb, analyze, and examine data from various sources to draw appropriate conclusions. 

  • You speak fluent German and English.
