As the Chief Engineer you will report directly to the Chief Claims Officer. The role can be based anywhere within the UK, with some travel to various UK locations including our London office.



Role Purpose

The purpose of this role is to provide advice and guidance to Allianz Engineering Senior Management on matters of engineering policy, Health and Safety and provide medium and long-term product development support to the business. To play a leading part in the continuing development of the inspection industry through development and maintenance of safe and legally compliant practices for all Engineering field activities.

Key Accountabilities

  • Assumes responsibility as the technical focal point for internal and external engineering policy including Health and Safety with a focus on ensuring the correct actions are taken to ensure a safe environment
  • Collaborates with  Engineering Standards and Operations Management to develop policies for the effective delivery of engineering inspection services compliant with accreditation scope and BSEN ISO 17020.
  • As a member of the Engineering Senior Management Team, contributes to the formulation of Engineering business strategy and key Engineering objectives. Produces and implements an annual plan for the Chief Engineer’s sphere of operation, monitoring performance against plan.
  • Contributes to the development of the staff through the implementation of mentoring, technical training programmes and Engineer Development Programme in conjunction with HR and RTOM’s.
  • Establishes and maintains liaisons and profiles with relevant trade associations and professional bodies, ensuring Allianz Engineering is represented on technical committees as appropriate, both nationally and internationally together with preparation of technical 
  • business papers in support of Engineering and industry issues. Controls the review of EC directives and potential changes to UK legislation.
  • Provides focus for the technical health and safety committee and sits on the AEIS Ltd to ensure that the Board are made aware of any actions required to maintain our strong regulatory position.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the Q Pulse system and the documents therein.


Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of relevant International, European and UK & Ireland health and safety legislation.
  • Broad knowledge of Quality and Health & Safety Management Systems.
  • Detailed knowledge of internal policies and procedures.



  • Chartered Engineer CEng (or equivalent).



  • Proven relevant managerial experience in a commercial organisation.
