The Opportunity
Our Enterprise business has set growth targets, and to help us to support that goal we are now recruiting a Marine Cargo Underwriter to join our Large Risk & Speciality Team, based in Dublin. Reporting to the Large Risk & Speciality Underwriting Manager, you will join a team of technical experts who continue to uphold the highest standard of collaboration, in a hybrid working model.
As part of the Underwriting team, you will underwrite and manage a portfolio of business opportunities that contributes greatly to the business we do at Allianz Ireland. You will have responsibility for growing new business, supporting junior underwriters, and managing renewals in the Marine Cargo line of business as well as opportunities to diversify your skillset in Property & Liability Underwriting including opportunities in Construction lines of business.
This role will provide the right person with the opportunity to join other product experts, build on their existing career, further progress qualification ambitions (CIP/ACII/FCII), work with international colleagues and develop a strong market presence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Working proactively with Broker partners and Allianz Customer Relationship Executives, you will underwrite and manage a portfolio of renewals and new business opportunities
- You will also engage with internal stakeholders in Sales, Pricing and Portfolio Management and deliver against agreed GWP targets to support our overall growth ambitions.
- Oversee the end-to-end customer outcome of allocated renewals and new business submissions in consideration of target KPIs
- Balance speed of turnaround with the technical requirements of the role to achieve renewal retention and new business conversion
- Engage with internal departments in Sales, Pricing and Portfolio management to negotiate terms and conduct detailed risk assessment and acceptance within existing Delegated Underwriting Authority (DUA) framework agreements
- Work closely with Property, Liability, Construction and Engineering colleagues both locally and internationally to create complete solutions for our customers
- Share knowledge and technical expertise with colleagues, contribute to personal and team technical development
- Identify improvements in process, proposition or service to best serve our customers
Essential Experience
- A minimum 5+ years’ experience in underwriting Marine Insurance
- CIP / ACII qualification (or working towards)
- Experience in business development, technical underwriting and high premium risks
Desirable Experience
- Proven track record in meeting challenging underwriting targets
- Proficiency in MS excel (can perform complex functions), and Salesforce
- Proven ability to manage customer/broker relationships
- Previous experience as an escalation point for technical queries
- Underwriting experience dealing with Property and/or Liability business
- Underwriting experience dealing with Marine and other specialty lines of business
**This role is subject to Minimum Competency Code (“MCC”) as provided for by the Central Bank of Ireland. A recognised insurance qualification may be required for this position. This role is also subject to the Fitness & Probity Regime as provided for by the Central Bank of Ireland.
