Role Purpose:

  • Responsible for the financial accounting/reporting of investments, preparing quarterly and year end statutory fillings (Schedule D, Schedule BA, etc.) and assisting with research on new investments.
  • Responsible for reviewing and analyzing FX activity and providing management with details of significant movements or issues. Also, assist the reporting team with other projects and monthly and year end closing responsibilities.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monthly closing: Responsible for the posting and reconciliation of the investment portfolio activity each month. Ensuring that the income statement and balance sheet are recorded accurately and timely.
  • Prepare annual and quarterly investment schedules for the STAT and IFRS financial statements, including Notes and Interrogatories disclosures for the financial statements.
  • Review and analyze the foreign exchange activity and provide management with details of significant movements or issues.
  • Assist the reporting team with other projects and monthly/quarterly closing responsibilities.
  • Complete investment related data requests for the yearly audit, tax department and support for our IFRS submission to Germany and investment information requests from rating agencies.
  • Archive records to satisfy audit and statutory requirements.

 

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree o Accounting, Finance or Business
  • 1-3 years of experience in investment accounting for insurance companies
  • Relevant insurance accounting experience, including knowledge of US statutory and GAAP accounting principles.  Knowledge of IFRS is a plus.
  • Knowledge of IFRS/GAAP/Statutory Accounting, with an emphasis on investment accounting.
  • Knowledge of insurance accounting principles, especially for property and casualty companies
  • Experience with SAP/BW/Cognos and proficient in Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to ensure compliance of closing, reporting with internal & external requirements (capital management).
