Job Purpose:

The Actuarial Accounting Expert is responsible for coordinating the monthly and quarterly closing activities and forecasting of financial results, reviewing work results and guiding the analysts in day-to-day work.  You prepare presentations and discuss work results with local and global management, as well as with Group functions.  You work independently and autonomously and are able to acquire the necessary information and methodology to fulfil your tasks.

 

Responsibilities:

In this role you will…

  • Keep abreast of leading market practice and drive innovation.
  • Promote close collaboration and interaction with the various closing involved functions (Group, Underwriting, Finance, Claims, Reinsurance, etc.) to foster mutual understanding of how business developments affect actuarial drivers in the financials.
  • Manage and drive forward the actuarial aspects of closing and reporting of AGCS NA financials.
  • Push forward the development of actuarial approaches and processes, including involvement in the transformation to IFRS17.
  • Prepare and perform Actuarial analysis for assigned business area including documentation, communication and explanation of results.
  • Peer review work from other team members and mentor, provide guidance to junior team members.

 

To be successful in the role:

You will have…

  • Qualified Actuary at the ACAS level or CPA;
  • A minimum of 3 years’ of business experience, preferably spanning multiple finance areas;
  • Experience with multiple lines (and preferably multiple types) of business;
  • Proven experience communicating results to stakeholders;
  • Proven experience developing/enhancing and implementing models/analyses and processes;
  • Project management or team lead experience;
  • Experience in international working environment (including business travel);
  • Extensive computer skills (e.g., MS Office including VBA and relevant expert systems such as Matlab, R, SQL or Java, etc.);
  • Finance and Insurance know-how (ideally P&C) as well as understanding of complexities inherent in an insurance group (consolidation processes, legal versus management view) allowing for cross-departmental thinking and acting;
  • Quantitative financial and risk modeling skills;
  • Ability to identify patterns and root causes in complex (e.g., ambiguous, from various sources) data and processes to rapidly distill key issues and provide insight in various situations;
  • Ability to understand, elaborate and convey information clearly and effectively with respect to the audience/level of management (both verbally and in writing);
  • Ability to positively influence others' actions, decisions, opinions or thinking resulting in positive outcomes;
  • Ability to persuade and motivate others without direct authority;
  • Ability to identify and initiate appropriate actions to remediate issues that can be abstract/ambiguous and follow through on their remediation;
  • Bachelor’s Degree (ideally Master’s), preferably in Mathematics, Statistics or other appropriate discipline; and
  • Willingness to travel.
