Role Purpose

Provide underwriting technical support to the MidCorp team. Act as a technical reference point for Workers Comp, in conjunction with the Global Head of Workers Compensation.  Responsible for creating underwriting guidelines, wordings, and training in coordination with the Product Line Leaders in MidCorp and where necessary with other LOB leaders when their products are needed by Middle Market underwriters. Act as technical Workers Compensation Subject Matter Expert (SME) for technology projects.

 

Key Responsibilities

Underwriting Strategy & Knowledge Transfer

  • Support development of global LoB strategy, UW policy and all other relevant issues concerning LoB
  • Participate in the development and execution of underwriting strategy for LoB. 
  • Work closely with Market Management, Claims and other product lines to achieve key marketing strategies, including cross selling.

Profit Center Coordination

  • Serve as technical expert for underwriters and Global Practice leaders by providing formal and informal training, coach and mentor underwriters to ensure technical skills advance to levels appropriate for MidCorp business. 
  • Responsibility for determining the training plan.

Global Processes, IT-Systems and Tools

  • Represent LoB / UW as BLO and in respect of global (IT) systems and processes
  • Develop, define and coordinate global processes (e. g. referral flow). Triage common underwriting system questions, provide solutions where known, and work with business analyst/IT to resolve defects.

UW Approach and Compliance

  • Responsible for ensuring that the underwriters underwrite within line with LOB governance framework. Reset underwriting authorities where needed.
  • Create and update underwriting guidelines, rules and principles for each class of business currently written by the MidCorp Package and Small Business Team.
  • Draft insurance contract language and direct product development and regulatory filing projects; key contact for regulatory inquiries.

Policy Documentation and Administration

  • Ensure accurate policy documentation issued to producers (where AGCS responsibility to do so) or producers has issued documentation (where producer responsibility)
  • File maintenance – ensure file is established (whether electronic or paper) and maintained for each risk and transaction handled
  • Proactively support completion of policy administration and credit control processes.  Audit underwriter files to ensure compliance and evaluate underwriting strengths and weaknesses of underwriters.

Relationship Management

  • Represent AGCS internally in the group, and externally to customers, the industry, and other organizations.
  • Drive involvement of functional areas in process coordination including e.g. Market Management, Operations, Actuarial.
  • Actively support LoB specific projects and task forces.

 

Key Requirements

  • Degree in Business Administration / Mathematics / Statistics / Finance and/or Actuarial background
  • Advanced knowledge in Excel and Database applications
  • Significant experience in Underwriting management and/or organization and/or processes management
  • Understanding of relevant technical and financial analysis of industrial underwriting cases or equivalent
  • Successful track record of leadership of direct teams or complex matrix environments
  • Experience of working internationally with strong ability for cross border adaption
  • Experience in Workers Compensation underwriting
  • Risk Assessment and Management: ability to assess risk inherent exposures and (natural) hazards relevant to Property
  • Portfolio Management: manage the underwriting books, monitor appropriate investments and allocate funds accordingly; analyze trends and scenario plans
  • Contract Drafting and Interpretation: design, develop and implement consistent, robust wordings
  • Pricing: analyze current performance against various benchmarks with a view to ensure adequate progress and satisfactory performance
