Senior Accountant I, Chicago, IL
This position will be responsible for supporting technical accounting and reporting topics related to the net underwriting results of the organization with a focus on the ceded insurance business on a STAT and IFRS basis. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, reconciling reinsurance premium and claim accounts, recording reinsurance contracts (treaties), delivering on IFRS and STAT regulatory reporting deadlines and preparation of reinsurance schedules and disclosures for the NAIC annual statements. Accountabilities also include assisting to complete statutory audited financial statements and support of data requests related to external audits and state examinations. Assist in project work as assigned.
##Project work as assigned, consisting of extensive data manipulation, reconciliation of data between systems, and researching discrepancies relating to the migration of system data.~crlf~##User acceptance testing for system implementations.~crlf~##Document application of policies, procedures and workflow for assigned areas of responsibility. ~crlf~##Archive records to satisfy audit and statutory requirements. ~crlf~##Draft standards to improve quality, as well as active contribution in improving and implementing global operation cycles, processes and workflows and the implementation of global policies and procedures.~crlf~##Ensure that all IFRS, GAAP and Statutory closing and reporting tasks (e.g., annual report, reporting to regulatory authorities, NAIC reporting, other internal/external reporting requirements) related to own area of responsibility are accurate and timely on a global basis. ~crlf~##Complete assigned postings, journal entries and account reconciliations on a periodic basis. ~crlf~##Reconcile and settle intercompany transactions within the affiliated company group.~crlf~##Coordination, transfer and reconciliation of data from interfaces of front-end systems.~crlf~##Take care of monthly legal entity close submission activities, including posting of accruals, deferred acquisition expenses and other accounting transactions.~crlf~##Support colleagues in the near- and offshore entities with their closing tasks, coordinate the tasks and supervise the teams and perform quality checks on the work done.~crlf~##Manage relationship with 3rd parties (auditors, business units, tax authorities, public authorities, etc.).~crlf~##Assist internal clients (e.g., other departments) with reports, research and other activities.~crlf~##Identify items for discussion or resolution.~crlf~~crlf~
##Relevant insurance accounting experience, including knowledge of US Statutory and GAAP accounting principles (IFRS knowledge is a plus);~crlf~##Comprehensive knowledge of local GAAP, IAS, IFRS, Regulatory, Tax and other relevant requirements (such as Allianz Accounting policies) with regard to reporting, compliance and declaration;~crlf~##Financial Statement preparation experience;~crlf~##Advanced Office skills (e.g., Excel, Access, PowerPoint to effectively analyze data and convey messages clearly;~crlf~##Proficiency in using systems in own area (e.g., SAP, Business Warehouse);~crlf~##Understanding of performance measurement including drivers and being able to perform financial statements analysis (e.g., reading a P&L and Balance sheet, Ratio Analysis, capital management, lines of business, underwriting and claims functions);~crlf~##Ability to manage projects and to handle complex processes including understanding of data flows, documentation of processes, analysis of root causes and creation of action plans;~crlf~##Ability to identify patterns and root causes in complex data and processes to rapidly distill key issues and provide insight in various situations; ~crlf~##Ability to identify and initiate appropriate actions to remediate issues that can be abstract/ambiguous and follow through on their remediation;~crlf~##Knowledge of data architecture, understanding the potential of data analytics, ability to digitalize the accounting processes and to explain the accounting needs to third parties;~crlf~##Ability to understand, elaborate and convey information clearly and effectively with respect to the audience/level of management in both verbal and written format.~crlf~##Ability to collaborate across teams (in and outside of CFO), in virtual teams and being able to supervise and coordinate near- and offshore teams without authority;~crlf~##Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business; and~crlf~##CPA Preferred.~crlf~~crlf~
