Senior/Principal Financial Analyst - Accounting Policy, Insurance (Controllers)

Allianz Life Controller’s organization is currently seeking an accounting policy professional with project management capabilities to join the insurance accounting policy team. The team is responsible for setting and evaluating accounting policies, interpreting and developing guidance on emerging accounting standards and providing consultation and advice on technical accounting issues affecting Allianz Life. As trusted business advisors, the team is highly valued for playing a critical role in driving the company’s strategy by advising on new business initiatives and product development, as well as positioning the company for future accounting changes. These functions include responsibility for monitoring new accounting guidance, partnering with various business stakeholders, understanding underlying transactions, coordinating with external auditors and Allianz Group accounting policy on insurance and other accounting matters, researching technical accounting guidance, documenting conclusions in memos and accounting policies to ensure Allianz Life compliance, and supporting junior team members in performing these responsibilities. You’ll have the opportunity to drive change in a fast-paced setting, while learning about a variety of topics, innovating new ideas, developing relationships with colleagues on other teams and overseas, and presenting project status to senior and executive leadership of the Company.

* Establish and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with finance partners and other internal clients to understand the business and provide ongoing guidance on new business initiatives~crlf~* Work independently to research and analyze proposed and/or completed transactions, and author technical accounting memorandums documenting those transactions~crlf~* Take an active role in the implementation of new accounting standards and the development of accounting policies~crlf~* Monitor, assess and communicate the effects of proposed US GAAP, Statutory and IFRS accounting standard changes~crlf~* Work in a fast paced, challenging and collaborative team environment with multiple and competing priorities~crlf~* Work closely with external auditors to address the accounting for significant transactions~crlf~* Communicate with senior and executive leadership on technical accounting matters and other projects~crlf~* Deliver high customer satisfaction in responding to routine and ad hoc external auditor, regulator, examiner, Allianz SE and internal customer requests~crlf~* Assist team members in managing projects or conducting accounting research~crlf~* Execute projects timely by managing project teams and coordinating completion of documentation related to those projects with cross-functional teams~crlf~* Concisely communicate status and other information about projects or other responsibilities to manager, work team, project team, and Company leadership~crlf~~crlf~Leadership & Communication:~crlf~* Must be flexible and adaptable to an ever changing and demanding environment ~crlf~* Demonstrates resilience and composure under stress ~crlf~* Strong understanding of mission and vision of team, division and company and has the ability to help meet those goals and objectives~crlf~* Operates with a sense of urgency. Takes ownership for ensuring that the team’s work is performed with a high degree of accuracy and timeliness ~crlf~* Assists with fostering an environment of collaboration in pursuit of common goals~crlf~* Able to identify problems, issues and potential solutions ~crlf~~crlf~Accounting Policy Team:~crlf~* Sets accounting policy for the entity and performs accounting research for projects, new products, contracts, and new IFRS, US GAAP and Statutory accounting standards~crlf~* Provides critical leadership within project team/working groups to facilitate understanding between multiple business areas and recognize upstream/downstream impacts of decisions, deliverables and results~crlf~* Support business partners and the Department on day-to-day accounting related issues~crlf~* Supports key financial relationships with regulators, examiners and auditors~crlf~* Reviews a variety of financial statements produced for IFRS, US GAAP and Statutory accounting for accurate representation of accounting standards or transactions~crlf~* Leads both small projects and large, cross-functional projects that impact accounting (i.e. project planning, scheduling, monitoring, implementation, documentation, and communication) ~crlf~

* 2-3 years of relevant work experience required; 4+ years of experience preferred~crlf~* Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field~crlf~* Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to comfortably present to senior leadership. ~crlf~* Understanding of accounting concepts and authoritative guidance~crlf~* Up-to-date knowledge of latest accounting and reporting standards or ability to gain knowledge quickly~crlf~* Knowledge of technical accounting for financial institutions, emphasis on insurance preferred~crlf~* Strong problem-solving, critical thinking and analytical skills, ability to work independently, self-motivated and requires minimal supervision ~crlf~* Strong problem-solving skills~crlf~* Strong desire to learn new things~crlf~* Resolves inquiries, requests, and problems independently, or with some management supervision ~crlf~* Ability to effectively resolve conflicts ~crlf~* Basic understanding of internal controls~crlf~~crlf~
