Communications Specialist (External)

  • Job Purpose/ Role

    The Communications Specialist is a generalist communications role, supporting North America internal communications and media relations activities. Working with the Media Relations Director and the Internal Communications Director, the Communications Specialist is responsible for spearheading and coordinating a broad spectrum of internal, press, social media and external activities to protect, promote and enhance the reputation of AGCS (and Allianz) by executing on activities, tasks and projects across the region, in alignment with Global Communications.

  • Key Responsibilities

    All-round communications support for the Media Relations Director and Internal Communications Director. Supports both proactive and reactive media activity as well as other in / external communications across the region, including digital support. Supports global communication activities and ad hoc projects as needed. Attention to detail a must. Ideal allocation of time is 50/50.~crlf~## Announcements: Handles distribution via BusinessWire and posts press releases in online press room. Draft and post related material for social channels. Compose press releases if needed. Proofread documents as needed.~crlf~## Internal Communications, Media Management & Engagement: Establish and nurture relationships with internal network. Support a broad range of internal communications activities. Flag current events in news cycle relevant to pitching. Identify new press contacts on ongoing basis.~crlf~## Social Media /Digital Support: Support social media priorities of Media Relations, especially to promote editorial coverage, executive visibility, thought leadership, events and annual milestones/holidays. Understanding of LinkedIn and Twitter preferred.~crlf~## Team Support & Engagement: Fulfill ad hoc requests originating from both domestic and global colleagues; support PR Agency as needed. Serve as point person on local CSR initiatives.~crlf~## Media Monitoring and Reporting: Actively monitor for press coverage across topics and Lines of Business. Create coverage reports and other related presentations on regular and as-needed basis. Track of all vendors and keep subscriptions up to date. Draft reporter briefings. Working knowledge of Cision software and PowerPoint preferred.~crlf~~crlf~Secondary Responsibilities May Include:~crlf~##Oversight and active management of North America Connect, the AGCS regional intranet platform. Proactively and creatively develop campaigns and promotions to evolve the look and functionality of the Connect site. Encourage participation, educate colleagues and drive enhanced usage metrics. ~crlf~##Develop and distribute to employees a continuous flow and wide spectrum of content and media aimed at engaging, informing and inspiring North American employees. Create e-newsletters, business articles, success stories, human interest profiles, case studies and more to create sustained awareness and understanding.~crlf~##Own and maintain employee distribution lists. Lead the generation of all-employee email distributions, meeting invites and more.~crlf~##Build a shared community of internal stakeholders who serve as communications ambassadors and promote activity within their respective lines of business and locations. Introduce new opportunities to spotlight our people, progress and strategy. ~crlf~##Work closely with global colleagues to align North America Connect and internal communications strategies with overarching AGCS initiatives in other regions.

  • Key Requirements/ Skills

    ##Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, or liberal arts subject~crlf~##Minimum 2-3 years of experience hands-on media relations and/or corporate communications experience (in-house or agency)~crlf~## Professional services, B2B and/or insurance background helpful but not required.~crlf~## Strong communications internships.~crlf~## Strong written and oral communication skills. Confidence in building and maintaining social media initiatives and online communities. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels in the organization. Professionalism a must.~crlf~## Great attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to prioritize tasks, juggle assignments and work unsupervised to deadlines in fast, changing encironment.~crlf~## Good knowledge and understanding of communication channels and how to leverage them effectively. Solid awareness of current media landscape. ~crlf~## Time management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast changing environment~crlf~## Flexible team player willing to pitch in where needed and contribute to the success of an evolving company~crlf~## Computer and IT skills - Microsoft word/power point/excel, online content management tools such as Cision software, social media
