Senior Accountant III, Chicago, IL
This position is a team lead for the gross insurance technical accounting team, including reviewing and approving work of staff accountants and analyzing underwriting data in support of IFRS and Statutory financial reporting for 12 insurance companies. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, reviewing recurring journal entries and preparing journal entries for ad-hoc transactions, preparing and reviewing reconciliations, analyzing IFRS reporting deliverables, and preparation of underwriting and loss schedules for the NAIC annual and quarterly statements. Accountabilities also include identifying and executing on process improvements, supporting data requests related to external audits and state examinations, and leading the department in project work as assigned in addition to developing staff accountants.
##Project work consisting of extensive data manipulation, reconciliation of data between systems, and researching discrepancies relating to the migration of system data.~crlf~##Assist Manager in review and development of staff accountants~crlf~##Complete all monthly close assigned postings, Journal Entries and Account reconciliations on a periodic basis. ~crlf~##Draft standards to improve quality, contribute to improvement and implementation of global operation cycles, processes and workflows, as well as the implementation of global policies and procedures.~crlf~##Document application of policies, procedures and workflow for assigned areas of responsibility. ~crlf~##User acceptance testing for system implementations. ~crlf~##Ensure that all IFRS, GAAP and Statutory closing and reporting tasks (e.g., annual report, reporting to regulatory authorities, NAIC reporting, other internal/external reporting requirements) related to own area of responsibility are accurate and timely on a global basis. ~crlf~##Archive records to satisfy audit and statutory requirements. ~crlf~##Coordinate, transfer and reconcile data from interfaces of front-end systems.~crlf~##Support colleagues in the near- and offshore entities with their closing tasks, coordinate the tasks, supervise the teams and perform quality checks on the work done.~crlf~##Manage relationship with third parties (auditors, business units, public authorities, etc.).~crlf~##Global P&L analysis and reviews.~crlf~##Assist internal clients (e.g., other departments) with reports, research and other activities.~crlf~
##Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business;~crlf~##CPA Preferred;~crlf~##Minimum of 5 years of experience with Financial Statement preparation;~crlf~##Minimum of 5 years of relevant insurance accounting experience, including knowledge of US statutory and GAAP accounting principles;~crlf~##IFRS knowledge is a plus;~crlf~##Comprehensive knowledge of local GAAP, IAS, IFRS, Regulatory, Tax and other relevant requirements (such as Allianz Accounting policies) with regard to reporting, compliance and declaration;~crlf~##Advanced Office skills in Excel, Access, and PowerPoint to effectively analyze data and convey messages in a winning fashion and proficiency in using systems in own area (e.g., SAP, Business Warehouse);~crlf~##Understanding insurance business performance measurement, including drivers and being able to perform financial statements analysis (e.g., reading a P&L and Balance sheet, Ratio Analysis, capital management, lines of business), underwriting and claims functions;~crlf~##Ability to manage projects and to handle complex processes, including understanding of data flows, documentation of processes, analysis of root causes and creation of action plans;~crlf~##Ability to identify patterns and root causes in complex data and processes to rapidly distill key issues and provide insight in various situations; ~crlf~##Ability to identify and initiate appropriate actions to remediate issues that can be abstract/ambiguous and follow through on their remediation; ~crlf~##Knowledge of data architecture, understanding the potential of data analytics, ability to digitalize the accounting processes and to explain the accounting needs to third parties;~crlf~##Ability to understand, elaborate and convey information clearly and effectively with respect to the audience/level of management (both verbal and in writing); and~crlf~##Ability to collaborate across teams (in and outside of CFO) and in virtual teams, as well as being able to supervise and coordinate near- and offshore teams without authority.~crlf~~crlf~
