Senior Accountant III - Technical Accounting - Complex Transactions, New York
The SR Accountant III – Technical Accounting – Complex Transactions will report into the AVP of Insurance Technical Accounting and is responsible for developing standardized processes for complex insurance and reinsurance transactions, defining the US STAT and IFRS accounting treatment, monitoring the execution of the transactions through the defined process, and communicating the results to senior management. Responsibilities will also include:~crlf~##Understanding complex insurance/reinsurance transactions, developing processes flows and control/governance within those processes;~crlf~##Collaborating with other functions involved in the transactions (underwriting, operations, claims, legal, etc.);~crlf~##Monitoring the execution of the process for the various transactions, and communicating results to senior management; and~crlf~##Managing projects across functions, documenting the new processes, developing and strengthening accounting partnership with other functions, and communicating results/ impacts of complex transactions in a meaningful way to various audiences (operational team members to CFO).
##Documenting application of policies, procedures and workflow for assigned areas of responsibility.~crlf~##Archiving records to satisfy audit and statutory requirements.~crlf~##Drafting standards to improve quality as well as actively contributing to improving and implementing global operation cycles, processes and workflows and implementing global policies and procedures.~crlf~##Ensuring that all IFRS, GAAP and Statutory closing and reporting tasks (e.g., annual reporting, reporting to regulatory authorities, NAIC reporting, other internal/external reporting requirements) related to own area of responsibility are accurate and timely on a global basis.~crlf~##Complete assigned postings, Journal Entries and Account reconciliations on a periodic basis. ~crlf~##Reconcile and settle intercompany transactions within the affiliated company group.~crlf~##Coordination, transfer and reconciliation of data from interfaces of front-end systems.~crlf~##Taking care of monthly legal entity close submission activities, including posting of accruals, deferred acquisition expenses and other accounting transactions.~crlf~##Supporting colleagues in the near- and offshore entities with their closing tasks, coordinating the tasks and supervising the teams and performing quality checks on the work done.~crlf~##Developing strong business partnerships with the various functions/teams involved in the significant transactions, including but not limited to, underwriting, operations, claims, and legal.~crlf~##Project work as assigned.~crlf~##Manage relationship with 3rd parties (auditors, biz units, tax authorities, public authorities, etc.).~crlf~~crlf~
##Accounting, Finance or Business degree;~crlf~##CPA or equivalent Preferred;~crlf~##5 – 7 years of relevant insurance accounting experience, including knowledge of IFRS, US statutory and GAAP accounting principles;~crlf~##Project management/consultant experience with strong focus on collaboration across multiple teams;~crlf~##Comprehensive knowledge of local GAAP, IAS, IFRS, Regulatory, Tax and other relevant requirements (such as Allianz Accounting policies) reporting, compliance and declaration;~crlf~##Advanced Office skills like Excel, Access, PowerPoint (to effectively analyze data and convey messages in a winning fashion) and proficiency in using systems in own area (like SAP, Business Warehouse);~crlf~##Performance measurement including drivers and being able to perform financial statements analysis (e.g., reading a P&L and Balance sheet, Ratio Analysis, capital management, lines of business), underwriting and claims functions;~crlf~##Ability to manage projects and to handle complex processes including understanding of data flows, documentation of processes, analysis of root causes and creation of action plans;~crlf~##Ability to identify patterns and root causes in complex data and processes to rapidly distill key issues and provide insight in various situations; ~crlf~##Ability to identify and initiate appropriate actions to remediate issues that can be abstract/ambiguous and follow through on their remediation;~crlf~##Knowledge of data architecture, understanding the potential of data analytics, ability to digitalize the accounting processes and to explain the accounting needs to third parties;~crlf~##Ability to understand, elaborate and convey information clearly and effectively in respect of the audience/level of management (both verbal and in writing); and~crlf~##Ability to collaborate across teams (in and outside of CFO) and in virtual teams and being able to supervise and coordinate near- and offshore teams without authority.
