Abdul from Allianz SE

“I've always respected and admired all of the hard work, resources and passion farmers put into their labour,” Liam says. “They have endeavoured to feed Australia with some of the world’s best produce and meat despite challenges including extreme storms, floods and blazing bushfires, not to mention the COVID-19 pandemic.”

“My job at Allianz has allowed me to support farmers through their times of need, and in turn it’s been very rewarding and makes me feel like I’m contributing in a meaningful way.”

Support from Day One

When Liam joined Allianz, the warm welcome and positive workplace culture struck him instantly.

“Straight off the bat, in our first meeting, my manager displayed how open and respectful the culture was by saying I identify with the pronouns of she and her…” Liam shares. “In all the interactions I’ve had around the business, I have always felt welcomed and valued as an employee, but also as an individual first and foremost.”

Inclsuivity is an issue that’s close to Liam’s heart, and he says he’s proud to work for a company that makes inclusion a priority.

A career path infused with creativity and collaboration

The Pride network meets regularly, to discuss and promote workplace initiatives and resources such as training documents and communication guidelines, they consult on how company policies and procedures can support our LGBTQ+ employees, and organise social events such as trivia nights, film screenings and our participation in larger Pride activities such IDAHOBIT, the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras and Pride Month. Liam says, “It has also supported the implementation of LGBTQ+ awareness training across the business, so that employees can better support their LGBTQ+ colleagues and community as an informed ally.”

Inclusion: More than just a buzzword

For Liam, creating a culture of inclusion at work starts with open and respectful communication.

“Demonstrating respect to and for employees and colleagues allows everyone to feel heard and supported,” he says. “By simply listening and learning about other people's experiences, or discussing topics unrelated to work, it enables genuine and authentic connections between co-workers, their teams and stakeholders such as suppliers, business partners and customers.”
